@ lefenton: As I said, the single H and the SSS are totally different animals. I'd say the H is more in the tradition of the classic Music man Tone. It has a deep, clear voice and a lot of punch if you want it to. The alder 4 SSS has is more focused on the mids.

I can not really say that the roasted neck makes a huge difference. It pretty much feels like the neck of my 91 Stingray. But the bass sounds really good overall as far as I can tell by now.

I just can't let it go and stayed up far too long the last days while playing it over headphones...

@ Rick: Thanks man! I really like the SR5 a lot. Plus I am bad at letting things go...

Back from the first rehearsal with the BA 5 roasted with the full band. To my surprise, I ended up with passive, parallel and the tone control about 80% down.

We inherrited a set of horns from the former Ska band of our singer so we a gravitating towards some more soul orientes material. The bass sits so well in the mix, is present but not to much in the front. Just great.

I ordered a new interface today so I will make some recordings soon.

Cellkirk: is it possible for you to do some recordings of both basses? I know there are a million settings, but I am curious about following:

1. Big Al SSS Bridge and Middle in Series Active
2. Big Al SSS Bridge and Middle in Parallel Active
3. Big Al H in Series Active
4. Big Al H in Parallel. Active
5. Surprise me with something on the Big Al H that I would not have considered.

I noodled some quick notes into some mp3 files for you. Nothing special since I came from the gym and my arms weight a ton. pm me an Email and I will send them to you.

I have to praise the Big Al H.

Like BP said, that thing sounds really really good and you can nail so many classic tones with it. I Found the steam hammer sounds as well as the smooth operator, dazz or le freak as well as some deep dark heavy tones or vintage sounds like the distance (cake) in no time.

The combination of the special pickup with the mahog body and the ebony board is simply perfect and very balanced.

Well done EB!!!!
