Neck Adjustments on my Stingray

i got an 2005 stingray and im worried about the neck warpin because i may be moving across country from california to the east coast. should i be worrying? id really aprreciate to get some feedback. thanks
another question ive been getting black rust on the magnets of my pickup whats causing this and how do i get it off?

Slight neck adjustments may need to be made but I don't think you need to worry about your neck warping. My SR was made in CA and now resides here in MA and there are no issues with the neck.

I special ordered my Stingray from Dubaldo's, it was made in SLO California, shipped to Connecticut, and then shipped to Georgia ..... neck is perfect... no issues.

neck warping

Slight neck warping is due to temperature change and humidity. All Guitars have to be tweaked every now and then. Any good tech can readjust neck and intonation. DC

No neck problems in ten years

Had my bass 10 years, and each winter and summer I tweak it just a few degrees back and forth; as the awful Mid Atlantic humidity arrives in May, and as the ghastly hair dryer that is my furnace kicks on in November. Never much more than a quarter turn or so. As for the "rust", try a normal pencil eraser, or maybe a more abrasive white one, gently, and it should be gone. (Be careful about the grit that comes off when you do this, and try to blow it off the pickup as you go to keep it out of the guts.)

yeah.. neck warping season is approaching here in .no
soon as people start heating their houses with electric ovens there will be a humidity drop of around 20%, and that does things to the wood. lucky me just got 200 guitars hanging on the wall to adjust in addition to all the customers guittars

what im tryin to say is that its completely natural for wood to move thus requiring a small adjustment.
musicman basses are the EASIEST to adjust ever! all you need is a 3mm allen wrench (or similar sized metal pin) to put into the lil wheel and give it a small yank...

Could someone tell me where the "lil wheel" is located on the Sterling bass? I just got one recently and I need to raise the neck a bit. I can't find any wheel. Thanks in advance for your help.

Follow your strings down the fretboard toward the pickup. When you get to the end of the fretboard, look down, you'll see a little round piece of metal with some holes in it. That's the wheel.

Thanks, now I got it. Two follow=up questions:

1) I assume I can use any one of the holes in the wheel to adjust it (there are holes two showing)?

2) I took off the factory strings and put on D'Addario flatwound strings ("XL Chromes"). There's a lot of string/fret "clacking" noise now, almost as loud as the note I'm trying to play. The flatwounds, I notice, are each about five mm thicker than the factory strings. Is this added thickness causing the "clacking" noise of string on fret?

Are the new strings tuned up?

I tried Chromes on a Bongo before and found them to be rather stiff. The extra tension needed the neck adjustment a little.

Check the neck relief to see if the new string tension caused any changes. Then check the string height.

You may need to bring in someone that knows how to do a setup for you.

Thanks Freddels. Yep, the new strings are tuned up. I like their sound very much, it's just the fret-clacking noise that's distracting.

I will do as you suggest and check neck relief. String height -- E string at the 12th fret -- is 4/32 (as near as my middle-aged eyesight can read the little tiny ruler markings), which I think is a bit higher than the recommended setup.

Are there are other good flatwound strings out there, that aren't as thick as the Chromes?

a couple days ago i played a gig. the next day i took out my bass out to clean it and restring it and the strings were higher than normal. somehow the neck had way more relief on it than the night before and all the upper register notes from the 12th fret up are buzzing really bad. if i bend a note in the upper register it poops out halfway through the bend. im taking it in on monday to have it checked. untill then does anybody have any clue to whats going on?

They're clacking from about the fifth fret on up. Not much, if at all, below that. But I don't now how to adjust just one part of the neck. I'll probably try to find a BG luthier in my area who would know how.
