I currently play prs but I am considering trading in for an axis super sport. My question is have any of you guys experienced any cracking of the body at the neck joint.
Thanks

I have never seen any cracking of the neck joint on mine or any other EBMMs owned by friends. That is not to say it doesn't happen (they are still wood) but I would guess that the 5 bolt neck joint plus good construction tolerances have probably made this unlikely except in the most extreme of cases......

Yah sure it's just a cosmetic thing man. It happens from the polyester finish, if memory serves me correct.

Good luck, Glenn |B)

So what you are saying is that it could be just the finish cracking possible due to expansion and contraction of the wood?

He didn't ask about his instrument, he just wants to know. My seven string has it, my 6 doesn't. I could care less either way. It's not really noticeable and the guitar isn't going to fall apart.

I'll say this much. Stress cracks can happen on ANY make or model of guitar, regardless of manufacturer or finish type. So long as they do not go into/through the wood and only in the clear or color coat, they are only cosmetic and do not affect the functionality of the guitar.

I've owned probably 20 Music Mans, and only one has had stress cracks in the neck pocket. The cracks were already in there when I bought it.

As has been said ... "stress cracks" can happen on any guitar for a variety of reasons.

It's almost always a crack in the finish, not in the wood. If you're concerned, you can contact the customer service folks and they'll help you out (taking a picture or something would probably help you out).

But certainly nothing to worry about.

This happens with some bolt on neck type guitars.
No big deal.
Just check to be sure that it is only the finish.
I own one with a finish crack in the pocket and it does not bother me at all.
Cheers

When I sold my purple 92 EVH the buyer wanted to know about the neck pocket. He said they were known to crack in the joint. My EVH didnt have any cracks and my 2000 Axis has now issues in the neck joint. I will say this too, once you play an Axis or EBMM EVH you wont play the PRS very much :)

As others have said its just the finish that cracks.

this things happen, I had one with stress crack so thin you could probably mistaken the crack with an hair. It's just cosmetic won't affect in any case your sound or playability

I think everybody should watch the Steve Morse interview posted by Colin. What he says makes a lot of sense. When you play, you won't see your guitar so in the end aspect, color, dings, scratch won't matter

Sound and feeling is the only thing important. My Bongo stealth is getting a lot of battle scars, I don't bother anymore "the first cut is the deepest ..."

Now go and play your guitar :p

Well I had a post up a month ago talking about this as after every winter I systematically go through all my guitars and change the strings and have them set up. This year I had two that developed stress cracks in the neck joints and they were both Fenders a Strat and a Tele. My Balls were fine.
