Well I knew when I took the neck off my SR5 I would find the date stamped in there. There is was Nov 04 1999, and the neck was pencil dated nearly the same - so all well there.

However, also stamped there was the number '150' and the word 'opaque' The bass is candy red.

Also there was a little red plastic strip with two holes in it which was sandwiched between the last two screw holes and the neck.

So anyone got any ideas????? Could be a little more geneology for my babe.

That's a shim. Make sure you leave it there. It sets the angle of where the neck leaves the body to allow sufficient up/down travel when adjusting the string saddles.

Jon will know about the '150' thingy.

It's a model number. All SR4s have a 110 stamp in the neck pocket, SR5s have a 150, Sterlings have a 170.

No idea what the model numbers are for EB guitars or whether left handers have distinct codes.

You can just about see "TRANS" stamped in the neck pocket in the above pic. I guess they decide whether it gets a translucent or opaque finish based on the wood grain/colour and stamp it as such before sending it to be finished.

enough said - have had my head in police and council agendas all day talking about blue sky thinking, joined up working and them taking a multi agency approach.

Forgot the basic english language there for a moment....of course opaque means not trans - thanks for pointing that out.

I am off for a big vodka tonic and to beat myself with the Oxford English Dictionary......

if its a solid colour, then surely that answers the opaque bit? Opaque means not transparent..... (or have I missed something here)

Oh another thing I have found is that if I lie the neck in a certain way I can see two "join" lines on the bach running parallet down the body.

Draw a line, where if the bass was a thru-neck, down the back of the body....about 4 to 5ins either side of that line there are two raised lines?????

Sorry cannot explain it better, will try to get some pics over the weekend, but does any one have any ideas?

It's probably the body joins. Some SRs have three piece bodies, some have two, a few have single piece bodies. As the wood ages you sometimes get this effect through very slight shrinkage (IIRC) of the wood. The raised lines are glue.

It's mojo. :D
