Hi all,

This is the first time I am starting a thread here.. And, Thanks to all for the warm welcome when I first joined in..

Regardless, this is where I stand. I went into GC today and checked out a Luke and an Axis, just to get a feel of the neck. I couldnt get my paws on any JP6 as they didnt have it. Here is my thing, the luke felt a bit awkward at first with the 'v' or 'c' kinda neck profile but as i played on for some time, it did really feel good. On the other hand, the Axis neck kinda felt 'bulky' at the start and havent been able to shake off that feeling(I am sure I would be getting a lot of critisim for this.Sorry Axis guys. Please consider me as an ingorent guy). I am in the process of acquiring a JP6 and I guess I am kinda scared now that it might something I am alien to(neck /feel wise). I am used to I****z wizard kinda necks. And it is almost impossible to get my paws on a JP6 here.. Havnt seen any around. And,I am left-handed too, so that sure makes thing a lot easier..LOL..

Guys, i would really appreciate any of the Jp6 and /or Luke users chiming in on this(thickness, etc), as to how the neck is like as compared to the Luke n Axis . I just want to make sure that I have ordered the right axe for me (Yes, i have ordered .. Call me a fool.. But i gave in as soon as i found out that the JP was available LH)

P.S. I have seen the thread by Spud - Neck Profile project. But , I couldnt get any comparision between Jp6 n Luke/Axis over there. Spud, please excuse me if this is hijacking your thread.

Appreciate your help!

Thanks,
Nik

Our other guitarist has a JP. He used to give me lessons and showed me his JP one day. He let me mess with it (backwards of course) and I fell in love. The neck feels thin and is so comfortable to do leads. The guitar is light as well which was a surprise.

Yes ed.. You are absolutely right. On comaparing the neck parameters of the Jp6 with my 370dx, they are quite similar - except that the radius is slightly smaller in the Jp. It is not much. I am hoping it not much of a leap from what i am playing now.

I did the exact same thing. I went to the GC to check out the different necks on MMs but they did have a JP6 and if you're thinking about buying one, I strongly urge you to try one out first. I've never felt a neck like the JP6. It's impossibly thin. I've played thin necks in the past but nothing compares to the JP6. Most people love it.

For the record, I personally prefer the neck on the Axis over the Jp6. From the first moment I picked up the Axis it felt so right for me. It's a matter of preference but if you haven't held it it's impossible to describe except to say that it's good... real good.

Seems to me if you like the wizard necks, you'll probably like the JP. It's flatter and thinner than any of the other MM necks, and so is a bit of a departure from them. Other than the feel of the oil/wax finish, the JP plays very differently.

thanks for the info guys..Appreciate it :D.. I have small fingers + small palm , maybe thats why the axis felt a bit strange to me.. If the JP is thin enough, then i am sure that i wont have a problem..

Popped into my local over the w/e...had a squiz around and actually had a quick strum on a wizard neck.

Coming off the back of my lukes, silo and an axis I recently played.. the wizard is substantially thinner/flatter... and if that's your thing, i reckon you'll love the JP too :)

Axis vs JP6

I think even with small hands, Axis neck is very managable. You get the "bulk" feeling due to the asymetric back shape where most of the wood is on the area where thumb rests. Compared to JP6, Axis neck is much narrower. Strings sit closer. I think it's hard to compare the two due to Axis' asymetric back shape. It's not as "uniform" like JP6 or Luke. From my experience, both are very fast playing necks and it is really up to the player's preference. Great necks!:)
