I've just been playing my old bass because my MM wasnt near by. Its got a varnished neck and its nowhere near as smooth and fast as the neck on my Stingray. Could I improve the playability of the neck by putting lemon oil on it? or are there any other things I could do to make it that little bit nicer to play? Thanks in advance guys

Not sure, but sounds like varnished neck = sealed neck. Oils wouldn't necessarily help.

Perhaps a healthy rub-down with fine steel-wool would smooth things over... :)

You could, if you felt able, remove the varnish then use gunstock oil as with a MM bass.

yep 00000 steel wool. got the neck on my beater really fast.

+1

I do that every now and then to the back of my LPB-3's mahogany neck, since the glossy finish can be sticky. I quick rub down with fine steel wool and it's good to go for a few months.
