Hello!

I was wondering if it is possible to roast a regular unfinished EBMM neck using a heat gun.

Note: I am not planning to use heat gun on my beloved JP6, so this more a theoretical question. If I ever do that I will probably get an OLP.

Your input will be appreciated.

Thanks

no way. roasting is done in an oven and over an extended period under strictly controlled temperatures. not something to be done at home.

Ya, you might as well use one of these if you're going to do that.

It would be cool to see how it's done.

Somehow, I don't think that there's some dude in the factory using one of Big Poppa's smokers to do it. :p

I dont know how EBMM does it, but you can roast maple (raw timber, not an already made neck!) by putting it in a kiln at about 300 degrees for a few hours. It caramelises the sap, which darkens the wood.

I never say never about anything but I think this is one idea you should totally forget about. I think most of us get the general idea of how the process is done, but it is being done in a workplace by experienced professionals with the correct machinery, and I would believe it is much more complicated than just sticking a neck in an oven.

I'm hoping the BBQ is set up at NAMM?

Now I'm thinking about going.

Do you think the convention center would notice if there were a couple of smokers set up indoors.

Maybe just to be safe we should set up the smokers at a competitors booth.
