Just asking about neck maintenance, (untreated finish).
The effect I'm trying to create it the factory fresh, fast, smooth, unfinished feel.
I usually just use a small amount of Lemon oil on a rosewood board every now and then or when needed.
I like the feel of an untreated natural neck, and don't want to change the way it feels just want to make sure its looked after.
Ive been looking through the threads an looking up the oil & wax treatment for the back of the neck an was just asking about how different it makes the finish feel an does it change the look of the finish in any way ?.

All in all what I'm asking is if i do end up treating the neck with the "gun stock an oil" treatment what products do i need ?, and the exact order to apply them.
Ive been looking up the "Birchwood-Casey" stuff and there is quite a few different types out there, like "sheen & conditoner", "True oil finish" etc...
So all an any help on this one is very appreciated.
Thanks in advance Dan.

Hey Danny, check your local Gun Shops...or sometimes even WalMart carries it. Buy the Oil and Wax. Clean the back of your neck with some Murphys oil soap(diluted like 5 parts water to 1 part soap). Let it dry for a bit, then apply the oil...leave on for about 5 minutes....wipe it off....then apply the wax... leave on for about 5 minutes. This should have you & your bass smiling!!:D

Here is the link to the EB FAQ....it has all you need as far as maintaining your nice new Sunburst Ray!

Danny you also need to get some grade "0000" steel wool to gently rub the neck up and down, please make sure you cover the pickups with masking tape before you use the wool as it makes a mess on the magnets.

As for the Birchwood stuff you need first the gun stock oil then the wax as you can see here

As for the Murphy's oil soap you need to get the concentrated stuff and mix it 1 part oil / 3 parts water and this is the one you need:

Finally got the "Oil & Wax" through the post yesterday (did try looking in lots of places but either was out of stock or had stopped stocking it ???) so i ordered it of FleaBay.
The job went well an took about an hour max.

Removed neck.
Washed it LIGHTLY with oil soap, let dry 10mins.
Using 1000 then 1500 grade paper lightly sand.
Using fingers, apply oil up/down the grain of the wood, leave 5mins, then wipe off, then using 0000 grade wire wool, quick rub.
Apply the wax same process as oil but use paper towel to wipe off with after 5mins, buff it with more paper towels an there you have it !! Silky smooth neck.

And on the fret board, using "EB-Wonder Wipes" , wipe on, leave few mins and wipe off, put it back together an its job done!!
