I need some advice please.

Just sold my Luke so I'll currently ball-less, as I was moving away from it and playing my EC Strats again.

I really fancy an Al but am currently torn between going for Al HH or a BFR with rosewood neck.

As much as I try I continually return to single coil pickups. But, I really fancy a change, something smooth sounding but versatile. I play mostly mainstream pop covers from 1950's to present day so I need a guitar that covers most bases really well. Obviously, a strat does that, especially with mid-boost, but I really love EBMM guitars so need to find the right replacement for my Luke and to take the mantle of my No 1 guitar.

Over to you and many thanks for your comments.

Paul

I love my SSS AL's and as you say with a pedal out front ( I just got me an MXR GT-OD), you can cover everything. I also love the piezo option as it gives you so many more options.
I played a HHH guitar for years - but it doesn't get a look in.

You're about 2 hours 20 mins away from Knighton Guitars - may be worth a trip?

I absolutely love the HH AL and actually was pleasantly surprised with it's versatility and how much it retains that typical AL vibe but for me there's no way I could ever love without the singlecoil equipped Alberts...both the MM90's and SSS are unbelieably great but if I had to settle with only one it'd be a SSS for sure.

I know Coda Music has a SSS with BFR Rosewood neck in used but good-as-new condition...quite a looker and rare, too. I guess you wouldn't go wrong with checking that one out.

I guess an AL with MM90 is for you. You'll get best of both world the sparkle of the single coil and a bit of meat when you go crunch

I would actually vote for the HH AL... it does just about everything you would want it to and then some. Singles are nice, but there is just something about the HBs in the AL that take it to a whole other level.

Going to arrange a visit to Wales spud to test the Al's and Reflex too. Whilst I'm there it would be rude not to test 25th too just to be on the safe side.

Not sure yet. I'd love to meet up. If not in Wales, perhaps I'll make LIMS in 2011. The only reason for me going to London is to see the guys on EBMM stand. I'm not interested in any other gear except EBMM guitars.

I'm away in Bewdley at the moment and won't return home til Sunday.

It's a trek for me too and it's going to depend on weekend availability. I'm currently selling gear on evilbay to give me a bit more spending money in case Reflex or Al HH suddenly becomes my No1 go to guitar.

I've spent hours on Youtube listening to reviews and tests and I must say both Al HH and Reflex sound amazing. 95% of the time I'm playing clean so that's why I'm more turned on to SC's than HB's.

A lot of the reviews feature guitarists who are demoing with a heavy sound. Very few have a natural clean sound which is pretty infuriating at times.

Hi Paul.
Thanks for the info. If it was tomorrow you were going to make the trip I could have driven to the shop and brought my 3 Als with me.

I'm going to be away a lot prolly until the end of March in Newcastle initially then most of the time in Liverpool.

You'll have a great time at the shop in Knighton. Shame we couldn't meet up as I enjoy your playing.
Hope you get to LIMS 2011.
Spud.

If you're in Scouse land, you're not a million miles away from Paul.

Heck, even I'm not that far from the place...
