What Up bass boyz. I need some help. I play a JP7 in a band and the bass player plays a 4 string, so I was wondering what he would need to do to tune his bass to Low B : DAEB. Would he have to get a different string gauge? Thanks!

Buy a 5 string string set. Open out the slots on the nut, if necessary do the same on the saddles, and the string hole in the bridge, fit and tune.

If he doesn't want to physically alter his bass like that (understandable), maybe he should try a 5 string.

Some 4 string players object because the neck is different...even though they've never really tried a 5. A 5 string can be thought of as a 4 string with a little something extra on the bottom. If you ignore that low B string it feels and plays a lot like a 4. Didn't take me long at all to get used to.

OOOhhh You talk like like a darksider, too. Bassers don't say "DAEB", we say "BEAD", and we don't name our string set by the skinny string [9 to you, 45 to us] we name it by the fat string [45 to you, 105 or 130 to us]. We also have a secret handshake, but you don't need that cuz we only share it with drummers :)

Usually the nut slots will need filing and this is no big deal nor major modding. It's rare to need to file the bridge saddle slots. Most bridge styles use the same V-profile slot from .030" up thru .135", all saddles alike on the bridge, even with 6 or more strings on the bass.

Dang my cover is blown:eek:

Well as far as naming the strings, I copied and pasted that from a website listing all of the different bass tunings (what like 3:D )

Make sure you wash yo' hands after shaking hands with a drummer...you know what they say..."Drummers are always playing with their stick!"

Wow that joke was horrendus.

I used to play my 4-string bass tuned BEAD, I found on my Ernie Ball I could just put the strings on, no problem at all. It sounded good too, but then I started missing my upper string, so I got a stingray 5 and after a while put a higher C string on my stingray 5 so it was tuned EADGC like a 6-string bass without the low B. That was fun really cool for tapping and playing chords.
