Hi

I just wondered if anyone on here may know anything about the guitar I have.

I have looked at a lot of photos of early production Axis', but can't see any solid Black with a pickguard? I just wondered if this has been added by a previous owner!

The original single ply pickguard is the cream one, I swapped for the black 3 ply as I thought it looked a little cooler, but both looked great.

Cheers guys and thanks for any advice!

Cheers Sweat!
I will probably leave one of the PG's on, as like you said it is in great condition so any protection from scratches is good. If it had a Trans top it would be a different story!

Welcome to the forum, and beautiful guitar!
I love those. Still kicking myself for not getting one when there were many for sale everywhere, and for cheap.

Nice! The trouble is they are all pretty hard to find as they only seem to be on ebay and are usually made to order! The Black 3 ply one I ordered as a bit of a change on the Axis cost me nearly £40.00! :(

Hi Guys!

Thanks for all the great comments!

Just a quick update as I have heard back from the helpful people at EBMM Customer Services

They said that between 1998 & 1999 the Solid Black Axis' could be ordered from Dealers to come with a Cream pickguard fitted from the Factory, which is pretty cool and probably means that there are not that many around. (but I am only be guessing on that as just 1 year of availability?)

Is "Solid Black" a colour that has always been available as an option?

Most Axis' I see are figured tops , with SS models coming fitted with PG's. I have seen they also did a "Black Sparkle" finish?

It's been rumored for a long time that when a figured top doesn't meet standards , they get sent to the solid color paint line...
Can't confirm it, but I believe a number of instrument brands do this... just makes sense...
But considering it's a custom dealer order, that doesn't apply. I'd think with the factory p/g, it's rather rare... nice score!
