Hi guys and gals,
I have an opportunity to purchase a new jp6 with a pezio but only have the next two hours to decide. I currently have a silo special hss and play through a mesa boogie ta 15. I play everything from g n r to nickelback as well as early blues such as early BB King. I do not know much about the jp6 but all reviews seem to be excellent. I do like a very clean pure sound and I would like to know if you guys could offer any advice. The purchase will make me have to part with my silo which is only 2 months old and I am curious if any one feels that this would be a good choice or a poor choice. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Roddie

That's a tough one to call!!
You want a clean sound?

Now my "clean sound" differs to somebody else's opinion of a "clean sound" and a humbucker (even if you split it) does sound exactly the same as a true single coil.
You may also miss the cluck/quack that your Silo positions 2 and 4 have to offer.
From my experience my JP 6 cannot give me the cleans that I want - but it does give me "grunt" that the singles can't deliver.
You have to try the JP 6out and make your own mind up - not go by mere heresay. - it's a completely different neck profile too (as you prolly know already!)

In regards to the single coil vs the humbucker I to am struggeling with going back to an all HB guitar as I love the chimey clean. I got the silo after for two years of buying and selling many guitars made up of prs and gibson. I pesonaly did not like the lack of clarity with the HB's as I found most to be a little to muddy and lacked the articulate sound that I wanted. I grew up playing strats and have found that the EBMM guitars are just awsome for quality and playability as well as the silo gives me that single coil sound that I desire yet it also offers a HB for some heavier rhythem or lead. As I said I am struggeling because I do play a lot of heavier rock as well and although I know 1 guitar cannot do it all I do need at this point a one trick pony

Sounds like a mission for a Morse if you want it all.. about as versatile as a guitar can get and the price of a hardtail in the USA is a steal for a quality proven guitar even if you don't have Steve Morses fingers. Same family as a Silo so you gonna like the shape cos it is what you are used to already

Need to go in a store and try em all really

JP6 is a different beast after all

As Spud mentioned in his post it's not only a choice between a HSS and HH setup...the neck profiles are very different. If you have the chance to actually play the JP - that'd be the best way to find out how you get along with it, if not you can at least check Spud's excellent thread on the different neck profiles here:

http://www.ernieball.com/forums/mus...ckleheads-volunteer-neck-profile-project.html

No doubt the JP will handle all the heavier stuff with ease...but given the range of styles you play I personally would stick with the Silo Spec or probably check out the Luke (again, the neck shape is quite different too...).

if it's not broken, don't fix it :)

in other words if you are happy with the silo spec why would like to change?

If you play mainly rock, I would highly recommend swapping the bridge pickup to something hotter. This way you get the heavy tone covered but also the cool versatility of the singles. Of course you can go all out and put a stacked single coil in the neck for a bit more kick as well but retain some single coil character. I've got an air zone in bridge fast track 1 in middle and cruiser in the neck. Its kind of a mix between Andy Timmons and Vinnie Moore combination. Sounds freakin awesome and still really versatile ...the JP would not be able to pull this off...no offense to the brilliant guitar of course.
