I'm thinking of getting this musicman stingray, but i need help, this ones a 2 band eq with piezo pickups at the bridge, sunrise finish with translucent pickguard american birds-eye maple neck, and its 760 quid. 1989 model i think.

Should i go for it? or should i go for something else, or should I falk out more and get a new model of the stingray?

is it just as good as the most recent Stingray model, soundwise aswell

Cheers very much

I know i'd rather go for one with a 3 band EQ, because of the extra tone variations..... I havnt used or heard a Stingray with piezo before, so that could make alot of difference, or it might not, I know someone on here will know.

I thought all piezo equipped SRs had the three band EQ?

£760's a fairly good price. New SRs are pretty expensive in comparison.

The thing that would put me off would be the finish, if it's the one I'm thinking of. Otherwise, play it. If you like it, get it.

I think you're on track dlloyd!

OK then. I think, going by the description, we're talking about a 1989, two bander, Sunburst 'Ray with a muted bridge assembly.

I love the Basses from that period :D

Got a pic and serial number so it's confirmed what you're talking about?

If it is, I'd get it if it played well.

If it's an Autumn Sunrise...

Eww.

Mind you, that's a much later model. Anyone know when they were produced? I can't imagine they could have been on the go for as much as seven years. (The one above has a post-1996 bridge).

Does the bridge look like this (pic taken from Gav's site)?

EDIT: When did the waxed neck first appear?

the body is the same as this one but the neck is bird-eye maple with rosewood fingerboard

Nice.

Looks like a good one (although I'd experiment with pickguards).

Have you played it yet?

Like none! Take that clear one off and run it 'round full-blown nude! :p

Back then, I believe that particular finish was referred to as "Sunburst" as opposed to "Vintage Sunburst" (the three tone burst) which was also a choice at the time.
