Ever since Bob did his epic Axis spalted re-top (details here: http://forums.ernieball.com/music-man-guitars/59927-here-goes-spalt-maple-axis-re-top.html), I've been stewing in a pot of jealousy - and glancing askance at a Morse/Y2D Sunset Purple I have with a relatively plain top...

I've done some woodworking, enough to know I'm not up to pulling this off and the end result looking professional - so can anybody recommend a luthier that would do a re-top for me?

I'll provide the Morse/Y2D body, with all hardware and electronics removed, and the spalted wood. They would have to strip it, plane it, apply the new top, route it, paint the back/sides, then apply the clear finish.

There's a ton of luthier "guitar builders" out there, but most only want to build their own complete guitars - and the couple inquiries I made didn't want to mess with a project like this.

So... any suggestions from the knucklehead gallery?! :)

Hello Kevin,

I have had a few projects done by an excellent luthier in Rhode Island: Jim @ Noll Guitars - 173 Macklin St, Cranston, RI 02920
(401) 275-0880.

I just called him and he said that he would take on the project, but that it would be expensive (over $1000).

He did these three projects for me:

Good luck, bro...I really like your idea!
