Hi everyone , im here to ask you about some dimentions of MM John Petrucci guitar.
John Petrucci
Can someone measure for me the neck profile with vernier caliper ?
I need those :
- thickness at 1st fret and thickness at nut
- thickness at 16st fret (before profile gets thicker to be inserted into body) - "last fret with normal thickness neck profile"
- thickness of headstock
- thickness of fretboard ( i supose there is 6mm)
- thicknes of neck socket i mean part of body under the neck
and thickness of neck in socket .

Thanks,
all the best.

You wouldn't by any chance be building replicas now would you? Come onto the companies forum where the owner frequents and ask a question like that, now that would take some balls man....naa, I don't believe you'd try and do that ;-)

been lurking here a while , i dont understand why the ops request generated these responses.just sounds like a legitimate question. first off the dimensions requested may be utilized to make a decision on a possible purchase online. or maybe the request is to compare neck dimensions to another model. The beauty of these types of forums is the exchange of information And even if the op was trying to build such a neck, so what , I am sure that would really make the Ernie ball co shake with fear. They build great guitars if the op wants to try and copy good luck to him.The request imho was a valid an reasonable request

I am on the same page. It wouldn't be that difficult for anybody to use a basic caliper from Home Depot to get these specs from a friends guitar if they wanted. None of these dimension are super proprietary. With the nature of hand sanding, no two guitars are going to come out the same every time. They are just specs for pieces of wood, not the latest military stealth tech.

Whenever I am researching a guitar, the first thing I am looking for is neck specs to get a general idea of what the neck will be. Some specs will just not be for me, so they save me some time from having to drive an hour to test a guitar out. If the standard position of Music Man is to not have that info divulged on their forum, then that is cool. Beyond that, no need to get hostile. These aren't national secrets. Just some numbers that anybody with a $10 tool and access to a guitar can get in just a few minutes.

Because the thickness of the headstock and fretboard don't have anything to do with playability and no other explanation was given, IMHO.

Hello again!

Yes! Im making copy of the guitar i have no access to it so i need to ask.
It's needed to make sure neck will fit to body and be fast.

Yesterday i went and get wood... my guitar will be all maple , I have no access to basswood - and with wenge fretboard. Colours will be swirled on it.

Today i made plywood template of neck, but I think I'll make another cuz i screwd 0.6mm at 3-5 frets on the left side of neck and i dont want to screw real wood when it comes to work with router... ;-)

I never had opportunity to play real music man but my one wont be 100% copy of the real. It need to fit to me , and the bridge will be fixed, no termolo arm at all. Strings trough body and maple body will probably give great sustain but im worried about hi frequences, too much of them may appear? ... maple is fast-attack bright wood , and if there is maple only?

So if you can tell me these dimentions, Ill be very very thankful.

And sorry for my bad English ;-)

Well some new details on PM appeared ;-)

My guitar will be weird in wood aspect, i was afraid for while but then i thought that will be great!

Mahogany neck , maple body, wenge fretboard
Crunch lab under bridge and norton under neck.

What im thinking now hmm .. norton is "singfull , warm and "happy" " pickup , so even in maple body, if its close to mahogany neck it will sound ok and as i wish ;-)
Crunch lab and maple body ... im expecting powerfull kick from heavy wood as maple and i wish that crunch lab will add some low freq to tone becasue maple sounds bright ...

what i did
gitarawstep.png

but it's unfinished , plywood neck have some problems ... but i have time
