MAKE YOUR OWN!

Before and after pics.

Measurements:

Length.....3/4"
Width......3/8"
Depth......5/16"

You'll need a razor-sharp trimming knife, a small steel straight edge rule, sharp long-bladed scissors, double-sided adhesive tape and a black computer mouse pad (the cheaper, the better).

The side of the pad should already be straight. Measure up 3/8" and trim a piece about 4" or 5 " long. Then cut your 4 mutes vertically from that.

Stick rectangular pieces of double-sided adheasive tape to the bottom of the mutes. Make the adhesives slightly larger than the mutes and trim them flush with scissors...long bladed allows the trimming to be done in one neat cut. The adhesive tape need not be black.

In relation to depth, the mouse pads are about 4/16" (1/4") deep. The addition of the adhesive tape should bring them to approx 5/16".

Start with the G string and lightly position the mute just ahead, and clear of, the intonation screw. Place the other 3 lightly in the same position all the way across. Use the steel rule to make sure they're in a straight line and make sure there is an even gap between each mute before finally pressing them into place.

Clean the surface areas well before fitting.

Easy hey :D

That bass looks vaguely familiar.

Of course, with me, they almost all do.

Shockingly, I don't think I ever owned that one.

Nice job on the mutes, sir.

Received from Scott a couple of weeks ago :D A definite keeper! Scott thought it was an 88 but it's actually Feb 89. Pulled it all apart, a clean here and there, setup and of course, home made mutes.

>>>will they work on a SUB?

Can't be done.

The mute assembly was deleted from bridges from circa 1993. After market kits could be added up to circa 1996 before the bridge was down-sized, making the option no longer available. The SUB Bass has a down-sized bridge.
