Need some help - Quiet in the house!

I use wireless headphones with a separate volume control. I just plug them in to my existing rack and cut the volume back (so I don't completely blow my ears out).

I also have a Roland micro cube. Works really well for a small 8 watt amp. Built in amp emulator and effects (phaser, flanger, delay, reverb). I've actually heard of people gigging with this thing.

I jammed with a bass player at this bar a couple weeks ago, and he used the MICROCUBE as a preamp for his bass rig! Go figure.

I have the same situation. I recommend the pandora.

a) its small
b) its portable
c) it sounds good
d) you can jam with cds/ipod
e) its pretty cheep
f) its what i use

Small headphone amps or FX processors with headphone outputs are certainly the way to go IMNSHO. The other part of that is the headphones. You can certainly get headphones as good as you want but for high end headphones I would whole heartedly recommend the Bose noise canceling headphones. After you wear these things for an hour (especially on an airplane) you realize why they cost as much as they do. They are worth it. At work they really make background noise disappear so I can concentrate on what they say is important. These things are amazing!!!!!

I just remembered that VOX also makes a "microcube" style practice amp.

Vox DA5. gets pretty good ratings.
