Yes, I know, I can send it to San Luis Obispo, but since I'm on the east coast, I'd rather not spend $100+ on shipping charges if I can avoid it.

2000 Sterling that I hadn't played in a few months. Not subject to radical temp/humidity changes, just sitting in its case. It's making loud, staticy noise when I touch the bass EQ knob and/or the volume. Sounds like when there's a bad jack which obviously is what I hope it is. I've eliminated all the usual suspects: battery, cable, pedals. I have a local repair shop that I've used for over 20 years w/great success, and while they're not authorized by EBMM, the lead tech assures me he can work on it. Any thoughts other than send it to California?

Have you tried cleaning out the pots yet? There are a few videos on YouTube but its really just getting the dust out then spraying a little bit of cleaner/lube in them. Might be worth trying first for only a couple of bucks. Outside of that, yeah - if its a simple pot cleaning/pot replacement, then your trusted tech should be able to handle that.

It doesn't really sound like scratchy pots sound. More like that bad jack that threatens to blow out your speaker if you don't shut things down.

I had a local tech replace the jack in mine. Ordered the jack from customer service. Way cheaper than shipping it.

yeah id only send it in if it was something like needing to refrett, needing to refinish the neck, or something with the larger parts of the bass, maybe i would send in if it were a preamp issue but probably not, i think any tech can order the parts, they just have to send the original part back. a lot of techs in a major city will have a pretty decent parts relationship with musicman
