Hell, I'm from deepest, darkest Mississippi.

But I don't say "y'all" and I don't use "ain't" and now that I think about it, I don't even KNOW any songs about rivers.

Nor can I play the banjo...and I dislike watermelon.

You left out "I didn't marry my sister"

The cowboy hat? Dude, people in Mississippi don't wear cowboy hats. If someone had figured a way to ride horses in order to herd pigs, well, maybe cowboy hats would be more popular amongst the magnolias.

The hat is a nod to my friend Brian, who insists we play rockabilly. Not that I'm complaining - that stuff is fun.

And I didn't say I never HEARD a song about a river - I said I didn't KNOW any. As in, I don't know any on bass. (Not that I couldn't fake it - I think the river stuff comes naturally to us.)

You left out "I didn't marry my sister"

Um, I'm from MISSISSIPPI, not West Virginia.

Hey guys,

I'm from Pittsburgh, yet I manage to "talk real good".

Now, "forth" as I know it, was a computer programming language in the early days of artificial intelligence. A good friend of mine who worked for Westinghouse built a robot arm to cut glass, and he wrote the code to drive it in "forth".. the hardware interface utilized the four joystick ports on an Atari 800 computer. This is no BS! Another Pittsburgh guy (who designed nuclear subs for a living) invented the "Happy" modification for Atari disk drives, which defeated most copy protection used in those days (CRC errors, etc.).

Another good friend of mine worked for a company who made ADA compilers. (You defense contractors may know a thing or two about that language.)

Anyway, my point is that I'm from Pittsburgh and I know how to spell fourth. But that's just me... ;)

your friend built that robotic arm? haah thats great its in all of are tech classes. and why do people keep saying "forth"?

Chill, dude. This is a friendly place with friendly pokes in yer belly button. No one intended to make you bitter. Stand up and take the ribbing like a man, and give it back creatively.

There. I said it. I have to go stop a speeding train and save innocent people now. Cya later and yer welcome.

Okay, this thread went terribly wrong in so many ways that I've deleted a buttload of posts and now I'm going to close the thread.

Coupla things.

1. If you are new here and don't yet understand the give and take, the relationships that have formed and the personalities (not to mention the nationalities) of the people involved, I suggest you shut up for a while and learn before you leap. There is a lot to be learned, too - I've been playing these basses since the late 70s and I still learn something new here almost every day. So yes, sometimes I do take my own advice, I keep my mouth shut and pay attention.

2. It sucks to be young. I remember believing that. But wait until you get old(er)! That sucks in new and exciting ways! But there is no excuse for being loud, rude and talking about things or people you know nothing about, especially in ways that are downright insulting. Knock it off, and I seldom say that, so I really mean it - and if you're reading this and asking, "Hmm, does he mean me?" then I probably do.

3. This is the Ernie Ball Musicman discussion board - not a political discussion board, not the FDP or any of the other manufacturer's board. Focus.

4. I do not like being heavy-handed, but we've had a thread or two get completely out of hand, and most of those threads involved someone not paying attention to Item 2 above. This needs to stop - NOW.

5. None of this is open for discussion, so I'm closing this thread.

6. Pay attention and play nice. Think about what you say before you say it. If it looks insulting, don't post it. If you're tempted to push the envelope, be prepared to deal with the consequences.

7. None of this is fatal. Please don't try to make me defend my position - just take it as good advice and let's move on. Okey dokey?

Now let's get back to the subject at hand.

Thank you in advance for understanding that I hate this type of thing.

Jack
