new amp help

Well, now that i just got my new pink evh to start of my collection i am looking for a new amp. I've narrowed it down to a mini rectifier, 5150 mini and a hughes and kettner duotone com bo(1000 mint used) im leaning more toward the h&k just bc it seems like the best deal, they were originally over 3000. I got to try the mini rec with my evh and it freaking screamed, what a little monster. Unfortunately all i have to go on for the 5150 III mini are some youtube vids bc no one around me has them.io With GC's return policy bc its a special order if i didnt like it and returned it there would be a restocking fee. Any opinions crom people who own these, especially the H&K. Was also looking into the mojave coyote or scorpion. The sound i would like to get close to is vh 1 but i also like modern rock. Not quite metal

I have a 5150 III - Mini 50 watt on order. I expect it to arrive in a few weeks.

I opted for the ivory tolex and the 2x12 cabinet. I'll have to let you know how it sounds.

My vote is for the mini rectifier. I have owned mine for the last 2 months. Great cleans on channel 1 and channel 2 will absolutely rock the house. It is the best small amp I have ever heard (so I bought). There are alot of sounds that you can dial in on this amp. It will go from clean to metal and most of the in between. Check out some of the sound bites over at Sweetwater. If something were to happen to mine, I would buy another in a heartbeat. I am running the mini through a 2x12 rectifier cab and would highly recommend this setup.

Just purely due to the fact that you already have the Roadster, which is part of the Rectifier family (I realize that the 25 watt Mini will clip differently than the 50/100 watts of the Roadster, especially with the EL-84s as opposed to the 6L6/EL-34), I'd say go for the 5150...unless you're actively trying to avoid sounding just like EVH...which, by the way, there's nothing wrong with...he's got a very identifiable and enjoyable tone...why mess with a good thing? There's no problem with ripping off someone else's tone...if it sounds good, let's have more of it!

I like the hughes and kettner duotone. I had a Triamp for some time and used it on many recordings. Only reason I sold it was I needed some cash and I swapped it for a Mesa. I know the Duotone can reach some of the same levels of amazingness sound qualities of the Triamp. I have been a big H&K fan for years now and always seems to go back to them in some way. I have the new H&K Tubemeister 18 on order. Besides that I loved my Triple Rec at times too so The Mini Rec might not be bad either.

Marshall JMD is on its way to my HQ.........lots of classic Marshall tone in that bugger and some nice cleans.

well, pulled the trigger on the H&K duotone combo. it should be on its way monday! if its like channels 1 and 3 of the triamp like they say it is, then its a freaking beast. still a few other amps I want to pick up, marshall 2550, blackstar series one 45 and another johnson millennium but the H&K is a solid start to rebuilding my collection

I think you will be happy with it! Like I said I had a Triamp for a few years and loved it. I still have access to if as well since I sold it to a friend. The few times I used a Duotone I was pleased with it. From what I remember it was more of a straightforward version of the Triamp. Plus if the Duotone is good enough for Tommy Thayer I am sure it good enough for most people!
