I just $$$ a new Axis from Pete (Dubaldo).

So a friend will bring the guitar in about 20 days.

Would like to know how it compare to Steve Morse Model.

Necks seems to be closer similar ?

Axis sounds heavier than Morse ?

Just curious.

Always want one of those.

Very nice guitar! You can look at the width and radius of the neck on the Music Man webiste to compare that way. As far as I know the Morse does not have an asymetrical contour on the back of the neck. But then again I don't own a Morse.

Hey Luiz,

Nice looking Axis! That top is gorgeous!

My Morse is an older one ('91) and had lacquer on the back, so it feels bigger than the newer Morses. Also, I've recently had the neck shaved down by Tommy, so now it's a different feeling neck (more like a cross between a Morse and a Luke). So that makes it tough for me to compare.

But ... before I did that- the original Morse neck definitely feels bigger than the Axis. The Morse feels a little wider (find it easier for string skipping, etc.) and fuller in the back of the neck, whereas the Axis neck is a little smaller and more compact. I never measured them, but they're not that far off in dimensions. However the profile definitely feels different to me- the Morse does feel more symmetrical in it's profile.

Again, the Morse neck feels beefier to me. But they are close enough that I don't have much trouble swapping between them.

Sound wise, nothing touches the versatility of the Morse ;) But the Axis is a rock machine- those pickups sound fantastic! Lots of beefy midrange sound from them. They don't clean up as well as the Morse pickups (the Morse bridge sounds great clean), but the Axis neck pickup sounds much better in my opinion.

Truly, different axes. And I love 'em both.

I own both a Morse with a floyd and an EVH MM (basically an Axis). The neck radius is different 12" on Morse and 10" on EVH. Also the Morse appears to be the heavier of the two, but I think that's due to the trem. Both are beautiful to play.
