Hi all.

New Axis owner here.

Just got this in a few days ago in a trade.

Previous owner must have been sweating muriatic acid.

I had to take some 000 and 0000 steel wool to it all, and now it's finally playable.

Played a Wolfgang years ago and was just floored. Nothing's ever compared. When this came up, I had to jump on it.

It's unquestionably the best guitar I've ever played.

Oh, and I should note that Gibson knob wasn't one there for more than that picture.

As soon as I saw the picture I thought, "Gah!" and put the original back on.

Nice first post! I really dig the natural finish on the guitar, and nice figuring on that neck.

Oh yeah, a chrome knob would be nice!

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

I've always been a Gibson and Fender guy, but neither ever seemed "right".

I like Fender playability and Gibson chunk, and the Axis seems to be a pretty good mix of the two.

Well, I probably will earn the scorn of the guitar community, but here's what I did for the wood...

  1. #000 steel wool
  2. #0000 steel wool
  3. lemon oil
  4. Howard's Feed 'n Wax
  5. buffed

I wouldn't recommend the Howard's on rosewood, but it works fine on maple.

For the corroded metal (jack plate, toggle switch, Floyd arm, and frets) I just did the two step steel wool process. That got everything nice and clean and shiny.

Unfortunately, that was AFTER I ordered a $22 replacement Floyd arm from EB this week.
