Hello everyone! I am new here and have a few questions. I just purchased a used amber Axis off a buddy of mine and I am absolutely sold! Bye bye Ibanez! Anyways....... Is the neck profile on the Sillouette similar? I know it a bit more narrow at the last fret but does it have the asymetrical profile on that guitar as well? And I noticed that the repair techs answer questions on here as well! Very cool! Would one of you be able to tell me the thickness of the sillouette neck?
Thanks in advance!

Hey Jeff,

Welcome. Good group of folk here, and very helpful on the tech side of things. Many (most) of us have more than one ebmm. Sounds like you might be thinking of adding to your collection too.

We have a saying around here, not sure who came up with it...but you'll be seeing it shortly.

Well I tried an Axis and found the neck too narrow for my liking, so I traded JimiD for his Silo, which suits me just fine. JimiD will also testify that he prefers the narrow Axis neck over the broader Silo neck..., but he'll probably throw in his 2 cents!

What Raz said: the necks are quite different. The Silhouette Special neck has a shallower, symetrical back, and feels quite different from the Axis. The necks are actually the same width at the nut (the Sil Spec is 1/16nd of an inch wider at the 22nd fret), so the feeling that the Axis neck is "narrower" than the Silhouette Special neck comes from the depth/shaping of the back more than anything, imho... Personally, I don't think anything can touch the Axis neck shape for comfort and playability. ;)

Welcome to the addiction! I own JP's myself and have played an Axis....which I happen to like......ask kbaim......Silo, I played OC's once and really liked it. But, I am hooked on my JP's for the feel and comfort.

Go with the silo. It's a little shallower then the neck on the axis and feels like an old friend the first time you pick it up. It is so comfortable that after you play it for four hours, you will be ready to play it for about four more. Also, 24 frets.
