New member day/New bass day! Hello everyone. UPS dropped off my ultimate bass around 3pm today and I am very happy to say I will not be posting any pictures of this one in the "Basses Broken during Shipping" thread.
This is my first Sterling, my first EBMM at that. Mr. Ball, THANK YOU, this is the first of many of your basses that I purchase to be sure.
A quick review (nothing but the obvious):
This bass is pretty much minty. Judging from the serial number its an early 2002. I can't find a scratch or ding on it, electronics are clean as a whistle.
I played it for a while without an amp and this bass resonates like no other unplugged! Raised the action a hair (I dig in, specially with picks) and plugged into my Bassman 1200 and Acoustic 404 15"
Immediate growl. Effortless playing. I favor the Series and Single Coil positions right now. I am finding Parallel is just a darker, less hot version of Series so far. With the EQ flat in Single Coil with a pick the Sterling sounds exactly how I think my Rickenbacker always should. There is so much throat in this bass. And the harmonics sound great, this bass has very rich and deep overtones all over the neck, absolutely dumbfounding.
Here's a VERY shoddy cell pic for those of you who need proof that this one's mine.
And some of the ebay seller pics (ahhh, there we go):
In short, it is a severe understatement to say that the Sterling has met my expectations regarding playability, craftsmanship, and tone. I'm sure everyone can relate to having the IDEAL bass in their head: how it should sound and feel, look, etc... The Sterling met that ideal. Ric, meet the underside of my bed.
