Its really been a while since I got new (or new to me) bass. The stars lined up just right, and I was able to treat myself to a bass pretty unexpectedly.

Ive been wanting an SR4 to pair with my SR5, and Ive wanted to have an EBMM bass with piezos for the longest time, and I finally scored one.

The black on black is classy, but Im going to change the guard to something more interesting.

So about the piezos. Id heard them on a fretted Ray before and liked them. Some people say they are only good for fretless, but I will disagree. I doubt Id ever use them solo, but they add a very neat deminsion to the Rays tone. With the magnetic pup, they add a smooth flavor that doesnt nail an acoustic bass sound, but adds that flavor. Mixing the mag and piezos gives you the Ray tone, but the tone is more "airy". Not thin like some might expect. It actually adds body. The lows are rounder, and the highs are more puchy sounding. Hard to put into words, but I DIG the piezos.

Just let it go, Azzy. The real question is "What's wrong with Figgy?"

I saw abalone on Trans Orange and it even works on THAT.

Figgy's living in a dream world.

Travis is living in a piezo world!

Now you've put Madonna in my head... thanks Jack!

Is your question one that has an answer? :D

(Can't stop humming Material Girl now...and I don't even LIKE Madonna)

Standing in a dark corner playing that everyone would be saying what is that awesome bass sound I am hearing?

I like it like it is. Would look great also with any of your choice pick gaurds.

Congrats Travis on getting a new bass.

Nothing wrong with abalone (joins the crowd staring at Figjam).

Getting a bit Lord of the Flies-ish, don't you think?

Or....

Moonstone.

I also saw a pic of a really nice "aged" MOTO guard on a purple Silhouette guitar over on the Guitar forum...that would look good on black.

Nice bass Travis! Got one sorta just like it.

On my fretless, the Piezo adds a "sticky" percussive tone.
I love it and so shall you . .
