Clorox is a brand name for bleach pretty much.

Maddog, thanks for the safety tip. I've been thinking of safe ways in which to do it, and I was definatly going to start with small quantities. Ill be certain to have a fire extinguisher and a water hose ready to go if I do decide to do this. I'm not sure if I have any brake fluid though. We'll just have to see.

Make sure the fire extinguisher is rated for chemical fires. Also, don't use the hose unless the fire spreads to more normal combustibles.

Sorry for the Fire Marshal Tom bit but I got stung quite badly playing with fire in my youth, mainly due to ignorance.

edit: also, the quantities used in the PSA was about a tablespoon of pool chlorine dropped into a container of brake fluid. This resulted in a fireball with about a 3 foot diameter.

Well, according to this it doesn't have chlorine in it, so the fireball thing should be out of the equation. It also says to use water and dry chemical to extinguish it. So I should be ok.

This says dry chemical for small fires is what to use, so the fire extinguisher will be handy. I guess as long as I don't inhale it and it doesn't explode I should be ok.

No problem Maddog. Better safe than sorry.

Jeremy, barely walking and a bit over 1 year old, flushed my 150 dollar electric shaver down the toilet.

I say "down the toilet" but it really didn't go that far. Far enough where it couldn't be reached from above, though.

I think I made a couple chlorine smoke things in my irresponsible youth. Chlorine tablet from the pool in a pie tin of gas or motor oil. No fire, but lots of noxious and probably poisonous smoke.

We also made 'acid bombs' with 2 liter soda bottles, muriatic acid and a hunk of aluminum foil.

Dangerous stuff, not recommended in small spaces, or with anyone around. Dumb stuff that can get you hurt or killed, but somehow insanely appealing to a 16 year old boy.

Probably wouldn't have been so easy to make without the pool chemicals in the shed in the back yard.

Yep muriatic acid, aluminum and a bottle. I remeber that from my lifegaurding days. Leaves really nasty stains on the ground under it. Cool to watch though.

Also, put a little styrofoam in a container of gasoline and you'll make napalm. Never done it myself, but thats what I hear.

Well then. That was rather dull. Made the mix and I got nothing except this greenish colored liquid. I'm a bit dissapointed. I don't think I had the right ingredients, but oh well, I'm not spending any money just to see smoke. I cleaned it up well though, diluted the crap out of it, poured it in a remotre corner, and sprayed it down some more. Shouldnt cuase a problem. Well it might kill the grass, but the grass is already dead, so no harm done.

It should melt the styrofoam into a gelatinous mess. Never done it myself but saw something similar, again, due to ignorance. Story goes like this:

Friend's car ran out of gas. He walks to the nearest gas station with a cup in hand. This is where I come in to the story. I see my friend walking down the sidewalk with a plastic drinking cup in hand. I stop him and ask him where he's going. He states,"To the gas station. I ran out of gas and I'm gonna use this cup to get a little gas and take it back to my car. Should be enough to then get the car to the station." Hmmm... I inform him that he should be using an approved container and that most gas stations have one on hand to let people borrow for just such occasions. Usually only requires a driver's license as collateral. He says he'll ask and we go our separate ways. I see him about a week later and inquire to his gas expedition. He said the gas attendant didn't have a container for him to borrow and so let him fill up his cup with gas. As he was walking back it started to get really warm. Then started getting really hot. He set it down very quickly only to stand there and watch the cup dissolve into this gelatinous mess. He never informed me how he got his car up and running again.

edit: I am not advocating anybody attempt any such experiments. Only that they should be well informed consumers because they are dealing with hazardous chemicals.

SteveB, if you're foung to use arcaic names for Sweden, you have to have it down correctly. It's "Svea Rike" which means the kingdom of swedes. The name was longer, something about the mercy of god...

Duly noted, thanks!

As for raising boys, I just had to take my 2-year old son to get 7 stitches in his forehead today. Boys...

Oh that is very very true. It also works with kitty litter. If you have a half of a coffee can filled with it, you'll get about a 5 foot flame.

Didn't read any of this thread so I've no idea what you guys are discussing, but I just had to note that I couldn't help noticing that we've got yet another EBMM owner - with a disgustingly clean house. I don't get it. Getta load of those stacked CDs! How do you guys do it?
