I really can't stand matching headstocks, so this is a non-issue to me personally.

From a business standpoint, it makes perfect sense.

Pros Im glad you have a business degree. Please dont be sensitive after getting a response in kind. I could cut and paste the aggressive nature and incorrect assumptions but I didn't I tried to explain it to you. I really feel that I responded much kinder than both of your posts. An action will get a similar reaction. Sure fans and customers have a right to know but also should try to keep the anger out if they want things to remain nice....

ANd guess what look beyond where you live 50% on the button go overseas and every $200 we add to the retail becomes $600.00. Just search why my guitar costs so much in Europe...it's global and its practical to eliminate features if they cost you money and time that you cannot recoup. The margins on these things don't allow for us to have money invested in bodies and two necks....not to mention the labor to assemble is the same if they make x or y......

This is the last response Im giving.

Group hug time.

Just a minor little two cents (sorry BP if this is out of line) but a buddy of mine who loves PRS's in the same way I, and we, love our EBMM's explained to me that he got a similar response from them on the same issue. If you're not familiar, PRS deals primarily with mahogany based bodies and necks and use maple tops frequently as well. They simply do not offer burst options on their headstocks that match the maple top stains on their body. They are either painted with a similar single color, black, or natural finishes that compliments the guitar. Same with Gibson (traditional blacktop HS finish), and Fender (Natty headstock option only, for the most part.)

No other company has been able to reliable offer in any form what BP has for several years with the BFR JP's in the vast array of mind boggling combination and options. It's not a consolatory opinion, its just a straight fact. Like I said earlier, when push comes to shove any individual concerned with the quality and function of their product will always sacrifice aesthetics for function and quality.

I make it sound so negative, but the reality is, its pretty awesome. Buddy of mine just photoshopped a black HS on a few BFR models, and it looks great. (It's not a matte black like the SUB1's, Darg said in the thread that it would be gloss, EVEN BETTER! :D ) If we didn't notice earlier the burst finish happens around a black trim on the body and the black headstock balances it out wonderfully.

Anyways, enough rambling, group hug.

I have the feeling that IF the matching headstock were still being done, somewhere down the line we would have seen a post asking for a headstock cap that matches the top on the body.

The bottom line is these are beautiful guitars, and well made. As a group we should be spending more time "listening" to these instruments and the sounds they produce, and less time "looking" at them.

I should have answered that we were the only company dumb enough to think that we could match stain color on maple and mahog and have it come out everytime....

Is this for real??

I don't see why folks are getting so worked up - IT's ONLY PAINT!

  • It won't help you play faster
  • It won't help you get chicks
  • It won't increase the value on the instrument
  • It's not going to make you weird in the band,

DIFFERENT IS GOOD! - I have balls with matching and those without, when I'm playing them I don't notice, and when I'm not playing them they're in the case.. yes matching looks nice, but it's hardly the most important thing on choosing an instrument no??? -
As an aside I see 'anoter' company is doing limited runs of matching headstocks right now, yet we've had the choice for years, and we still bitch....

For everyone who's moaned about the lack of paint, I submit that you possible have too much free time, perhaps a boost in fibre intake?? just my 2 cents.

Yes, I agree with Smelly.

The problem here is that we're spoilt. We have so many great instruments to choose from, all are supremely made, the best customer support in the business and our very own forum. And, the head of the company regularly contributes to the forum! I don't think you'll find that with the likes of Fender or Gibson.

Perhpas the only issue here is that the change wasn't communicated or we missed it.

Apart from that a BFR is to die for. I'm hoping to get my Luke BFR very soon but the 25th is giving it a tough time right now.

Let's remember, our friends at EBMM need constructive criticism in order to help them understand our needs better so let's make sure we don't start using our forum to give them a kicking - we're all better than that.

I don't think any of us really have an appreciation regarding production and the decisions made every day to keep the wheels moving. We'd all like a "special - one off" EBMM but the guys have to weigh up commercial viability too. After all, if they spent thousands in development only to sell 5 guitars someone has to pick up the tab. And they don't want to lose our business by pricing these amazing instruments at PRS prices.

So come on, think before you type because we need EBMM in our lives and we like to remain one big happy family.
