My blues trio went into the studio yesterday to do a quick demo of some tunes with our current drummer, and this is the result.

We were in at 1:30 to set up, started recording at 2:30, recorded 17 tracks, and kept nine. Mixdown was done and cds burned by 7. So, it was definitely a quick deal. But, for what we got, we are very happy with our under-$250 investment. We plan to go back in sometime in late February to early March to record an album. I hope the Dargie Delight is here so I can use it, too.

I used my original Black Sapphire HHp Bongo 5 with Ernie Ball flats (neck humbucker favored with about 60/40 mag/piezo) into my True Voice preamp into a Neve console directly into Protools.

Here's one of our originals.

And, here's one of the standards we recorded.

Freddie King's "Someday After Awhile."

Boy, oh boy. Can't wait to listen to this. Will have to wait until tomorrow now though. I'm going to band practice straight from work and will get in too late to fire up my Mac.

I'll let you know what I think, though, J.

Very nice tone ... and it compliments the tone of the guitar well. What is your guitar player playing?

Thanks,

The guitar player is using Kellys outfitted with Lindy Fralins. He loves the looks and tone of the Albert Lees, but he prefers the big fat necks of 50s Strats. The Al is too teeny of a neck for him, unfortunately.

Great tone guy. I love Blues........you play it well. I'm considering a Bongo for my next Bass purchase. Listening to those clips is making my choice easier. I was going to purchase a Stingray 4HH, but I still have Bongo fever.

When a Bass player knows what he's doing it makes the song a joy to listen too.;)

Thanks........... OMB

I have a blues gig over the ugly bongo. LOL SR 5 won't replace it now that said asshat has heard.

I wanted an anniv. SR 5. Not now I play bongos until bongos are considered the new P bass of the world.

Sorry BP, can't spend no more money until something beats me bongo into the dirt.

I've had this Bongo for close to three years, and it's still one of the best sounding/playing basses I've ever encountered. Get one. You won't be disappointed.

Coincidentally, I think they should ship Bongos with flatwounds. You simply can't beat the combination of Dudley's preamp and a nice set of EB flats.

The single H is everything BP said it was and more.

Lord Bongo. How many times you broke out the dual H or S H bongo since getting the right color H bongo?

I ain't playing fair I know.

The single H does it for me quite nicely in almost all situations.

(Before I forget, nice work, Jason!)

Since the Big Signature Fest on the red Bongo, though, I've left it alone until I get those signatures covered with some spray stuff that Dudley and Jon recommended, and the weather has sucked too much to actually get it sprayed yet, so....

I've been playing other stuff a lot.

It's REALLY hard to get a bad bass around here.

I love the sound of Flats on a Bass. I've never tried the EB Flats. I've used Chromes, but recently got a couple of bad sets. I'll try the EB's. Thanks.....again I love your tone. Keep up the good work........;)
