What about the single coils on the LIII model? They are quite interesting and sound great in combination with the bridge humbucker. Though, they differ from what I normally use on my other MMs (area, 54 pro and Heavy Blues 2 pickups)

Steve said he used the Dimarzios on his entire new album. Also called transitions. I'm thinking Steve is a Dimarzio man now.

Certainly is! Sounds fantastic. Much warmer than these pups come across through my rig though.

Personally, I'm glad he made the switch. The new pickups sound simply amazing. One day I turned on my amp with the boost accidentally engaged and the LIII sounded so awesome, I was totally inspired to play for much longer than planned.

Dimarzio makes a fabulous pickup. No one will dispute that. I am madly in love with my axis pups, my wife is ok with it too. =)

Steve's Emgs are also fabulous, they certainly cover a lot of territory, and do their own thing extremely well.

With that said, I know of NO pickup that can do everything. I have several guitars with passive pickups from 6 different manufactures and they all have their strengths and/or sweet spots. I have 2 guitars loaded with 2 different compliments of EMG's, one HSS, the other HH. Different tools for different jobs etc...

I am excited to see that Steve has been endorsed by Dimarzio. I am very tempted to get a used Luke on the cheap and load it with some of the Dimarzio/luke passives just for kicks. Cheers to Steve and Dimarzio for yet another option for me and my guitar obsession. I bet Steve is just Loving the heck out of that neck position humbucker. I really bet he is. =)

Cheers,

Tom

Luke's note choice blows me away. Between this video and learning tunes from Stevie Wonder's "Fulfillingness First Finale", I've had one of the most inspiring guitar days ever!

That's good to hear Dr Kev, genuinely happy for you! Loving the sound of the LIII too, I had an original Luke for a short while but never really got on with the EMG's so maybe it's time to look again?
