I'm tempted to get a set, I trust Steve's intuition for great tone. Too bad they don't offer the single coils, but the humbucker neck do sound real define ans sweet.
So looking forward for the release of Luke's new album "Transition". He never seem to stay stagnant, always growing as an artist and a player.

I'm actually really curious on how that set will sound in a JP. Like really curious. I love playing the high gain crunch lab stuff, but it just isn't my repertoire much anymore.

BP and Luke hit it out of the Park with the LIII. I am favoring the HH flavor so far. Dont forget Luke had influence with the Axis PU's.

For those interested in the LIII Single Coils, it seems they are (according to Dimarzio CS) "very similar" to the Injector neck model.

Yes, there is an old thread somewhere about that. For the Ringo Starr tour this year he went maple necks on his guitars, and then for the Toto tour rosewood, roasted, and regular. He's mixing and matching! :)

Do you think he's swapping necks on and off his guitars, or just playing different guitars?

Tell more?

From what I remember (and I might be wrong) SL made the final choice on 2 sets of pups for the EVH cause Eddie was unable to choose. Eddie asked Steve to take the decision for him. He got EVH #3 (80 003, purple) as a gift from BP and/or Eddie for his help at the time.

I said this months ago and everyone seemed to disagree with me.

EMG's always have a harsh characteristic to me. Doesn't matter what the volume is set to. Just my opinion of course.

You really think Steve Lukather has a harsh tone? To each his own and all but....

Both vids show the greatness of the Luke. I don't hear any harshness, but everyone's different.

Maybe harsh isn't the word. To me they tonally have a little 'edge' to them. They have come across to me as too hot. It's all subjective of course.

Is it safe to say now that even Steve has come to prefer the "organic" quality passive over the edgy tone of the emgs?

That's quite interesting! I've got one in one of my strats and it sounds much more mid-heavy. Is this an effect that LIII active electronics produce (I mean scoop the mids somehow)?
