I have to say I quite liked what Mangini was doing with the older songs when playing live, but so far his drumming hasn't stood out for me on the albums he's been on. That being said, I'm well on my way to liking this album better than anything DT has put out since Scenes From a Memory.

I love it. I don't care about MP. I try and always look FORWARD. I think DT did the best thing they could when MP made his decision, they looked FORWARD! If only all of their fans would do the same.. ;) (that is not a dig, I get it... I loved MP too).

"Our New World" is my fav right now... the opening riff.... epic!

Seeing them in Baltimore in April if anyone else is going.... lets get together for a "forum beer"!

I'm not one of those guys who dislike Mangini or anything like that, and I was hoping for some cool drumming on the new album, because the last two sounded like JP send him the demos and he played what him was told, but I can't find anything special on the new one as well.
Listened to some older stuff the other day and that is the complete opposite to the new DT. MP did his thing, and sometimes it was a bit over the top, but in the end, it fitted to the song and made the riffings even more interesting as by now.

Enough drum talk for now!

The guitars sound great and there are a lot of cool riffings going on!

But one of the main themes seems like I have heared it before from an other band...Sounds to me like Kings of the World from Def Leppard

Or does my mind play tricks on me?

The snare isnt even trigged. Mangini confirmed it on his facebook. Probably the way it was mixed, I guess. Also JP didnt send Mike drum parts. He sent him ideas, not fully written drum on ADTOE, then MM was there from the begining when they were doing the self titled. For TA, mike said he received demos with no drums. I remember when ADTOE came out and some people thought John wrote ALL the drum parts and was stating this as a fact when it wasnt even true. People please, do your search before stating things as facts !

As for the guitar tone, i liked it on this album better than DT12. But his tone from sfam, 6doit, black clouds and even adtoe was way better. A bit less muddy, more crisp and less chorus/flanger.

Listened to it already three times and I like it. It took me some time to get used to it but it's definitely fun and a great idea to create such an album. Some songs I personally find very predictable...no melodic surprises.

Have been hearing it from the past few days, and just like any other DT album, it grows so well on you! Love the tones, the musicality and the theme of the album. Very well executed :). Some of the transitions and mood changes in the songs are EPIC!!

The only challenge I face is to hear it end-to-end in one go, there's never enough time!

My favorite has to be 'Our new World', but I am sure that's gonna change in a bit :) I am in love with the intro to 'A Savior in the Square'.

Is it just me or is this the only forum community that has a majority of positive reviews of the new album? Every other forum I've read reviews on seem to be equally split right down the middle as far as "like it" or "hate it", but on here there seems to be much more praise than anywhere else. Is it simply because we love our JP guitars sooo much?

I personally can't get into it after 3 full listens. Honestly, I'd be just as happy spending the same amount of $ and only getting the riffs on the match the master contest site instead of the whole album. They are pretty much the only sections of the new album worth listening to IMO.

Great album!!
After two days i really prefer the Act1: more dramatic, and imho more interesting than Act 2. Of course it's only my personal preference.
The guitar sound is stellar as usual: for the aggressive tracks, (that are in Act2), i still prefer the guitar sound of DT12 and ADTOE; but, again, is only a personal opinion.
However, I love this album and i can't wait to see them live again in March.

P.S.Last time i saw DT live was during Falling into Infinity Tour....November 1997. Damn, the time is flying'...

No, it's because it's a very good album :)

Bought my tickets for the tour today, can't wait to see the whole thing live.

I'm a sucker for a concept album.. I'm really liking the story, corny as that sounds.
I read JP interview and am blown away that someone would put this much of their soul into a project.

3 thumbs up...

havent gotten the disc yet, but have caught some streamed tunes... liking what I hear...

I listened to whole album once so far & I really like it! Musically, it's a lot to digest so I'm going to listen in smaller sections. Very ambitious but DT pulled it off!
Flawless performance as always for JP. The man is truly a modern guitar hero.

I need to spend a lot more time with it. My initial feeling is that I really don't like it at all. My problem with DT is that you get 2-3 REALLY good songs on each album and the rest is just nonsense that would make more sense being a soundtrack for some Disney movie or a Broadway show. And this being TWO CDs long, I'm dreading having to listen to more than an hour of nonsense.
