Initial REVIEW...New EBMM JP6 Owner!!! ...

Hi there!

I have been a Fan of Petrucci's playing for years and was always impressed by the EBMM JP6. Recently I decided to try and buy a JP6. I had always tried to play one, but I never could find one in stores. Since I was planning to sell 4 guitars to fund the JP6, I really wanted to play one first.

Then I found the Ernie Ball site and I was able to use its Deal Finder feature. The locater directed me to a Fantastic Music Store, Huber and Breese (lived close and didn't even know about it!). I went in and saw the Perl Redburst JP6 with Piezo and inlays hanging on the wall (they also had a mystic dream). I tried it out and was immediately impressed.

So the mission had begun, sell my 4 other guitars (no worries, I still have my core 3). After about a week, I sold the first 2 and went to put the JP6 on Layaway (the whole drive there I was convinced that it had already been sold... but thank goodness it wasn't!). Coincidently the day I put it on layaway I went to the Dream Theater concert (my first) and got to see the BFR in action...

2 Sold guitars later, I walked out of Huber and Breese with my new JP6, my first EBMM.

My first impression is that I am totally impressed with the build quality. The hardware seems to be first rate and the sound is great. The neck is really nice... I had an Ibanez, but I never liked the necks that much. This neck is fast but also a bit more rounded. I am playing with it during my gig this evening.

I saw that sometime one can get a DOB for their guitar, so I'll give it a shot!

I'll post some pis when I get a chance...

See ya and I'm happy to be here!

I concur... When I fist picked the JP6 up, I found that the build quality was very high. Made me wonder why more companies didn't build stuff like this. The guitar felt very solid. Compaing this to the old JPM I used to have, this was like comparing a Hummer vs a Suzuki Vitara.

Well! I got to play my JP6 for the first time during a gig for one set (we were outside and got rained out).

My first impression is WOW!!! I totally am impressed!! The feell of the instrument is Great... I surprised the heck out of my self by switching up the pickups mid solo because the switch was so easily accessible. I thought playing rythym would be tough with the placement of the pickup toggle switch, but it ended up being not a problem (phew!). LOVE the feel of the neck.

The tones I used were distortion (Rivera K55 Knucklehead.. LOVE that amp)... nice and tight and clear, clean with a TS-9 tubescreamer and the peizo. The Peizo sounded Really good. I was playing stumming tunes and the acoustic overtones made my sound very chimey and rich.

I am still figuring out my clean tones. I think the middle selection on the pickup swtich is usable. It is a more quiet but deffinately funky and strat lilke, but with my boost pedal (hooked up through the effects loop) I can get that usable live sound.

Soooo.... to wrap up, I found 4 sounds out of one guitar and I haven't even tried blending the Peizo and magnetic pups.

Try the piezo pickup clean. Even through an electric amp (it sounds gorgeous through an acoustic) you get a very clear sound. Turn it up and the slight crunch is to die for. Just my 3 cents.
