BTW...That guy who used to play "Hootie" in that band I thought I'd forgotten about(they had a guy who played "Uncle Fester "on bass) is now playing a cowboy singer in a Burger King commercial. God has a sense of humor. Life is good. :D

I know this took a strange turn here, but the "which one's Pink" thing got me thinking about it. Carry on.

Yeah, but I heard she found out what band he was in, and fell out of the swing, laughing. The out takes will no doubt show up on Fox at some point in time. :D

I just saw that comercial, there are some fine women in it that's for sure. Though I'll have to say that I did not know that it was Hootie play guitar there.

I'm sorry the new BK guy scares the hell out of me, reminds to bizarre clowns or something. I mean that one commercial where the guy wake up and the BK king is sitting next to him, man I freak and klll the guy!!!

Hahahahahaha!!!

the really scary thing is that there are 3 different versions of that disgusting commercial. they vary in length and focus on different things going on in the background... the full version is a solid minute long and makes me want to never go within 100 yards of a burger king again.... and those two daisy duke chicks with the buckets of ranch dressing sloshing it all over themselves...eeeww. I just imagine it taking two or three hundred takes to shoot the commercial... with the dressing going sour under all those lights... god. it makes me pity the chickens that became those sandwiches.

I can just see a chicken in heaven: "god! you have to be kidding! they made me into THAT?!"

What is cool about that commercial for me is, I HATED that band. The singer(Darrius?) was IMO, the only one with a bit of talent. I think he is probably the only one not working inside a Burger King :D

Indeed, Hootie and the boyz get to play golf all day long while we have our nose to the grind.

That sucks, but I can hold myself blameless because I never bought any of their records.

So, who among us is partially responsible for this tragedy? 'Fess up! ;)

ahh... thankfully I never bought any of their cd's. and I have a good idea for a new BK commercial: instead of the guy waking up next to the scary fiberglass-headed king, he wakes up next to hootie in the cowboy costume, (anybody see "be cool" yet? ... I think the Rock was wearing that same outfit...) then he screams and breaks that gibson jumbo over his head.

Ok - I'll fess up. I actually own two Hootie CD's. So now I guess I must defend my honor.

Are these guys the most talented instrumentalists, musically gifted composers or provacatively creative lyricists? - No. They were just a working college bar band that caught a break with an interesting name, some catchy pop tunes at the end of the grunge era and Letterman being a fan. I think Darius Rucker has a good voice, but the other guys are fairly run of the mill.

I also think they get stuck with the " Hey I'm better than these guys....how come they're making it " backlash that often hits people of average talent who have made it in any field. Sometimes it's not fair that the ultra talented don't aren't always rewarded for their efforts. But, on the other hand, these guys are not some producers invention as fronts for studio musicians and a paycheck. They were out playing, got lucky and rolled with it.

Now let's fess up - How many of you guys workng clubs on weekends wouldn't mind being discovered, signed, sell a few million albums and get some national tours. (I can hear it now "...yeah but my music is good...") (Well at least when you were 25 and single)

At this point I think these guys still tour, back to clubs of course, put out the occasional album and run an annual charity golf tournament benefitting education. Just back to being working musicians.

I'm not the president of the hootie fanclub, nor do I play him on TV. But I had to defend myself and say my piece - now let the greene bashing begin :)

Has anybody out there seen that new Travolta movie "Be Cool" ? There is a scene involving "The Rock" that is strangely remenicient of those Burger King commercials.

mbgreene,

Oh, I wouldn't go bashing someone who just 'fessed up and stood his ground. ;)

I think the biggest problem with Hootie et al was the massive overexposure that was foisted upon the American public by the media.

Heck, you couldn't flip channels, turn a dial, or swing a dead cat without running into Hootie back in their heyday. I think Rucker has a decent voice, but his diction sucks. Even after hearing their songs 1,000,000,000,000 times I still couldn't tell you exactly what he's singing. Bad case of the mumbles! :D

I have always believed that less is more when it comes to songwriting, and their stuff was nice and simple. (Even college kids could comprehend it!)
:D :D :D
