Another newbie question for sure but can anyone tell me what the scoop is on this fancy new nut I've seen on some Rays. My new SR5 has a regular looking nut.

 Is this new nut now standard issue? Is it better? Is it something I should be gassing for?

That is called a compensated nut. It is desgined to intonate the first few fret better with the rest of the neck. As for as I know it is now standard issue on every instrument except for fretless.

Hmmmm, that must mean my new SR5 is a little older than I thought. Might have been sitting on the wall for awhile.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this new nut? Is it a "must Have"? It looks pretty cool in the pics I've seen.

Thanks for the reply. I certainly have not noticed any intonation problems so far with the standard nut. The new nut looks really cool tho.

Man, I was hoping there was information on a new, healthy pistachio variant in this post.
