Just got word that OLP is getting ready to make a Luke model. Will be interesting to see and hear it when it comes out!

Considering the EMG Lukather set retails at £299 over here, I doubt it.

But a Luke without EMGs?

This is kind of a pet peeve with me:

An OLP Luke? huh?!? Maybe I'm missing the whole point of an artist endorsed instrument... I thought it meant you were buying the same guitar that the artist plays. Apparently, it can also mean you are buying any third-world piece of plywood that the artist can make a buck on. My mistake...

I'll admit that it's nice for kids without the dosh for a genuine Luke to have an alternative, but I don't think that the OLP guitars are genuinely representative of the Ernie Ball Music Man guitars they "copy". If you look at a Squier Strat, the neck shape is very similar to the Fender Mexican or US-made guitars (sure, they're generic, uninspired, C-shaped necks, but they're very similar across the line). My problem with OLPs has been and remains that the OLP necks are NOTHING like the Music Man necks (with the possible exception of the JP, which has a wide flat neck in both cases), and until they make an effort to emulate the actual neck shapes, and not simply copy the headstock and body shapes, I think these el-cheapo copies may do EBMM more harm than good, as they can potentially confuse buyers (eg: "I had an OLP Luke with a great wide/flat neck, so I ordered the real deal, and it came with this tiny little narrow v-shaped neck!")... I can't tell you how many posts I've made on other guitar forums explaining that the OLP MM1 neck is in no way representative of an Axis/EVH neck...

Good point Jimi.

I suspect the OLP "Luke" will just use the same body and neck as there silo copy with the wires backrouted and some low spec active pickups added.

Our local guitar store had an OLP Axis next to the real thing. There really is no comparison (including the photographed on quilt effect...FFS  ) bar the general shape. Even that isn't that accurate. I wish they'd gone down the Wolfgang Special route, charged a little more and sold a much higher quality and more representative instrument...

Yeah, prolly EMG passives.. EMG-HZs.. EMGs passive stock pickups aren't actually that bad. Well the newer ones aren't anyway.

You bring up some very good points, these olps might mislead buyers in thinking, thats was an original Music man is like. l've never thought of that. My thinking has alwaya been, if you spend $200 on a guitar, you'll get a $200 guitar, if you spend $2000 on a guitar you'll get a $2000 guitar. Sorry l can't explain F^&$%r and the rest if the overpriced guitars. hehe.

I'm still wondering what type of pickups are gonna be in this guitar, they are gonna be no way near the emgs though.

Scott.

The zebra pickups that came with my OLP MM1 are actually quite good. I thought I would change them, but I haven't. I thought I'd eventually sell it, but I haven't. I've played a lot of guitars, and the OLP is better than at least 75% of the guitars I've tried from all price ranges. I can't get a decent sound (for me) out of any guitar made by F####r, I don't like Les Pauls at all, and a HUGE percentage of all guitars made are bad copies of F or G guitars. I like the OLP because it doesn't look, sound or play like them. You can call me biased, but my Father and Grandfather love to buy used electric guitars and resell them, and I've played a lot of JUNK made by the big name manufacturers. One of the worst playing, worst sounding guitars I've ever heard was a 1977 25th anniversary Les Paul that I sold for my dad on ebay for $2100! It was not even close to being as good as my $200 OLP, or my stepsons $500 Ibanez. You don't necessarily get what you pay for. Sometimes you just THINK you get what you pay for.
