New Guitar Day (JP BFR6 Content)

Nothing beats owning a new guitar specially having your first ball. :D

My John Petrucci BFR6 in walnut burst arrived a week ago and man is it one sweet looking guitar. I just set it up with 10's the way i like my guitars strung and it plays beautiful. It's a very versatile instrument and the trem plays like butter. prior to getting my JP BFR6 i was toying with the idea of installing a tremsetter or a tremol-no on this guitar but after playing it i decided to leave the guitar be.

here are some pix. forgive the quality of the pictures. it's one tricky subject to take pictures of and my photos doesn't do justice to how gorgeous this instrument is.

@ musicmanjp6,

i'm sure you'll be as happy when your tobacco burst BFR6 arrives. that incidentally is my first color of choice but couldn't get my hands on one. i'll be waiting on the pix of you BFR.:)

O/T: how'd your honeymoon go? don't for once fool yourself into thinking that once the "little one's" arrives the GAS stops.LOL i was in a similar state of mind before i got married but somehow i still get to wiggle my way into buying my toys. with the missis' approval of course.LOL:D as long as we take care of our family i think we're entitled to satify our GAS.LOL

Congrats! Great choice of color there ;)

I normally describe the BFR JP to my friends as a super-LP because it has such a thick and crunchy, but not as muddy as the LP... What do you think?

I've since sold mine, so can't really compare :D

Congrats on the new guitar my fellow BFR owner,hope you enjoy it my friend.its an amazing instrument and nice quilt top on yours by the way.

Just a quick question for you,i want to change my string gauge too from the 9,s its came setup with to 10,s as they are abit too much like elastic bands for my liking:D
is it difficult to do this or could you explain how you done it please?

i never thought of it that way but nice analogy nonetheless. to me the JP and LP are apples and oranges. i understand that they both have maple tops and dual humbuckers but i think the similarity ends there. they're both great guitars, IMHO.

it's fairly easy.

first off, i just made sure the nut slots can accommodate the 10's because I wouldn't dare touch the nut on this guitar being that if i mess up it'll be very hard for me to get a nut replacement.

after loading the 10's i had to compensate for the increase in string pull on the tremolo bridge by tightening the claw that holds the tremolo springs. i then adjusted the truss rod to get the necessary relief and check the intonation. i also lubricated the nut slots with a little pencil lead. after all was done i abused the trem to make sure it is in perfect working condition.

honestly, i wasn't very impressed with how the guitar was set up maybe because i'm partial to 10's but after loading this guitar with my gauge of choice i know i found a keeper with this guitar.;)
