I sold off all but one of my guitars I'm keeping to display, and I'm in the market for a new primary guitar. I used to have a Jem and am not looking to go that route again. It was a great instrument but I want something different this time. I prefer flat fretboards (15+ radius), 25.5 scale, 24 frets, and thin, unfinished necks. I like to play primarily metal/neo classical style music, but I don't want a one trick wonder. A versatile instrument is a big plus. Right now the only guitars I'm really looking at are an Ibanez RGT220ANTF and a Music Man JP6. I would probably swap in my favorite set of pickups in the Ibanez if I went that route. I really like the playability of the JP6 I played. The piezo option and the functional body cuts were great. My question is are there any other guitars you all would recommend considering with about a $2000.00 price limit? I'd like to weigh as many options as I can before making a purchase, and there isn't much of a selection to just pick up and play around here. Finding a JP6 was like pulling teeth.

Thanks for any suggestions provided!

The EBMM fans here on this forum are about as fanatical about EBMM guitars as Dream Theater fans are about their favorite band. I doubt anyone will suggest anything but EBMM guitars. I doubt I will ever buy another electric guitar from another manufacturer.

You're not just buying a guitar. You're buying a guitar that has a company with unparalleled customer service backing it. If you buy one, and you stay with this forum, you become part of a "family" too.

I bought my first EBMM this year and I tell you its just the beginning of it, I'll never look back again.

Also, this forum is AWESOME.

Get the JP dude. I got a Silhouette Special this year, and I am blown away every time I pick it up. The JP6 was my second choice, but I wanted to get a single coil neck pickup so I went wit the SS. The feel, playability and sound of the JP6 (hell any EBMM guitar & bass I have played) makes them the best instruments on the market IMO.

Plus, you should be able to easily find a JP6 in your price range. That's the other great thing about the EBMM guitars, you do get alot of bang for your buck.

My first "real guitar" was a 68 SG - I wish I still had that - a great guitar.
I sold it and bought my Les Paul which I still have, but rarely play.

In my mates repair shop is an SG, as smashed up by Pete Townshend (has provenance to prove it too)
