On a serious note, the olp guitars (axis knock offs) are a good value, reasonably priced guitar for someone new to the instrument. About 200 bucks.
I'd wait to spend the big bucks in a couple more years.

And come to think of it, I've seen the olp (silluette knockoff) offered by musicians friend that comes with a line 6 guitar port, strap, picks, strings... for about 200 bucks total!!!!

Yeah, that is a pretty good deal, though since he already has a starter guitar it might not be what he's looking for.
If he saves for a few months he can get himself a silo off ebay for $400 or so...
Hat, I think you're doing fine. Try and drop into a guitar store now and again to play different models. After a while you'll have an idea of what sort of thing you like....

Definitely go into a guitar store and noodle around on different models/piss off the sales staff.
You may even want to concentrate on finding a decent amp before your next guitar purchase if you don't have one already. It can really make all the difference in tone, inspiration, etc.

Definitely Smoke on the Water or better yet...Stairway! That usually seals the deal with the salespeople....Anyway, I played on my Ibanez for 10+ years before my lovely wife (still kissing up!) went and got me a new Petrucci. She saw how much more time I dedicated to playing and writing, that she bought me another one!! (The honey do list is being complete with big smiles to this day!) Definitely noodle around at the music store until you find the one that "hits" you. You will know the one. It doesn't have to be a high end guitar, it just has to sing and feel right. When that happens, you will have found the one for you. Hope this helps.

I was trying out a line 6 flextone II amp at GC. EB's just happened to be displayed around the line 6 cluster of amps. The luke just fit me perfectly and sounded so great. I bought the amp that day. Went back to the store every 2 weeks for 6 months to play the luke and finally it dawned on me, just buy it you idiot!

I had never even thought of trying an EB because I hadn't heard anything about them and I thought the headstocks looked goofy, but there was an Axis in the room, and it was the only thing in there with P-90's.
Within 5 minutes I knew that and EB would be my next purchase.
Now I have 2 balls and feel like a man.

I had never even thought of trying an EB because I hadn't heard anything about them and I thought the headstocks looked goofy, but there was an Axis in the room, and it was the only thing in there with P-90's.

i actually seen a few pics of the axis here and there and starting investigating them. i ended up buying one off ebay (never even touched one before, let alone play) and when it got here i was like holy S$&@! this things awesome!!! i'm kinda a weird person in the fact i can play and get used to just about any neck out there, but the axis was like nothing to play.
