Hi Guys..just thought I would give you my first update regarding the new demo position..well before things get started I have to choose a selection of instruments to take out on the road for clinics and demos. Although I have a large collection of EBMM guitars, many are custom built for me, or have been modded, due to my passion for seaking out new tones, and my own preferences. To give you an idea, I acctually own 3 original Sports, A Trans Gold one, with 2 Humbuckers, and a scratch plate, an original MM90, minus the scratch plate, although I modded this guitar by adding the DiMarzio DLX plus in the bridge, just for a little bite and output; plus its a humbucker in P90's clothing, so its quiet...This guitar was the inspiration for my custom build fixed bridge Supersport, (you can see pics of it in one of the albums on my profile). I also have a NAMM show prototype Axis Sport, which is HSS, with a scratch plate, but it doesnt have a tone control, where as the production ones did. I also have first generation Petrucci's,6 and 7 string..My 7 string was the actual guitar reviewed in Guitar World. As well as this I have other modded guitars, including my main Supersport, my Chrome Axis, and my Black Silo Special. Thats not to say I dont play standard guitars; I have a new standard Supersport, Humbuckers, with trem and piezo. I also have a stunning Blue Axis with a Floyd, plus a white Silo Special and an Albert Lee, all fitted with single coils but over 10 years old...and well used...and lets not forget my stunning BFR white Double Neck, and my original EVH!!...I love my collection...
But Nick Clubb and I have selected some guitars that will be used for the up and coming in stores and demos.I shall use my new Axis Supersport, plus my Blue Floyd Axis and my BRF Double Neck. New guitars we are adding include a Luke, Y2D Steve Morse, a Black Albert Lee with 2 Humbuckers and a Rose Wood neck, a JPX 6, plus a more up to date Silo Special. What do you guys think?....what would you like to see/hear me demo on clinics and also videos? We shall obviously be adding a Game Changer asap!!...So come on guys..what are your thought?...do you think this selection shows a wide enough variety of the many instruments available?...your thought?.. Jamie Humphries :D

PS..I forgot to mention I visited Blackstar amps HQ in Northampton today and filmed a new video for a secret new product being launched this wednesday...The video shall be on youtube on wednesday, and I'll post it here when i return from Frankfurt. For the demo I used my original 6 string Petrucci, demoing clean, crunch and lead tones. I havent used that guitar in anger for a while, but I have to say it was so inspirational..cant wait to get a more up to date model!!!...God i hate my job..LOL

Nice selection. I'll be watching out for the vids.

Why not throw in a Morse standard, and show me all the different pickup combinations ;)

Jamie, you still haven’t said what the finish is on your new Axis SS.
Quilt or Flame top?

Being a Blackstar owner, I look forward to your video.

Nice choice of guitars to use. I even like your color choice (and I rarely like anyone else's color choices :) ) As a suggestion, how about running the Al HH over the tone range. Steve Morse did something like this in a clinic last year. Gave us a trick to fool the sound guy (who, of course turns up drums and bass and his job is done)..... But from playing a few Al HH's, I know how it can go from very nice and sweet to growling menacingly enough to scare away the neighbors. I was snoozing today, so missed the Amazon sale today before they sold out.

Looking forward to hearing the bridge humbuckers on the Y2D and JPX back to back, being pushed hard Jamie.

I love the tones from both, and even with wood differences and chambering, with the same amp and same hands that could be a very interesting demo.

I feel bad for you Jamie as no one should have such a crummy job lol. Seriously though I am looking forward to hearing you play most of the gear you mentioned as I am used to hearing you on your Axis guitars and I think a lot of guys would be shocked at knowing some of the tones you have recreated from Megadeth, Satriani, Yngwie, Queen, Gilmour to the Edge to name a few using your Black and Cream Silo Specials is a bit freaky as they would not be the average players choice for a lot of those styles. So it will really be wild to see what you do with all these different axes.

Thanks for your reply..and what a great point too..Yes..I do manage to get all of those tones from those guitars!!..and with ease I might add..I have also done SRV on an Albert Lee, and even did Pantera on MM90, although that did have a DLX in the bridge, but still it did a great job!!.. That's one of the main reason why I have been using EBMM guitars for so many years now...Its because these guitars are with a doubt the most flexible and versitile guitars on the market!!...I read acomment on Youtube not long ago where some guy was bitching that I use EBMM on Lick Library stuff because I am paid too!!...That is so so far from the truth..i use them simply because they deliver everything I need in one guitar!!..On the Brian May tour I shall be getting all my electric tones, emulating Brian's Queen tones, and also using the piezo..what will I be using?...an Axis Supersport!!!...Brian was floored by the versitility of the instruments...not to mention the feel..I did an entire soundtrack for 60 episodes of a BBC1 cartoon series called Freefonix a few years back, (look it up on youtube)...it was a kids cartoon that was about a good and evil band who had battles with their instruments...i had to get some pretty wild and crazy tones, even had to play licks that outlines and helped animate the movements of the characters..I terms of a session it was a totally different mindset...For the entire series I used an Axis Supersport, my white Silo Special, an original John Petrucci, plus my EVH, (just for the Floyd)...The guitars did everything, and the producer was totally blown away..he had alot of vintage gear, and was like " why dont you try my Gretch, or Tele, or what ever?"..but everytime I said, "No its OK..I'll get the tones with these"...and I did...
Sound a side, the EBMM guitars feel great..one thing I had in the past with other instruments was that long periods of playing would give me wriste ache, and shoulder issues..But due to the design of the necks, the feel, and the though put into how the guitars feel and sit when you hold them, I can play on a session for hours...At Lick Library, when filming a DVD I'll do 3 days straight, 8-10 hours a day..and you have to be seated in the same position, with a mic up your shirt, and a camera man saying, "sit like this, or like that to get a better shot", with 3-4 camera's on you...not the most comfortable enviroment to be in for long periods of time playing guitar..but not a problem with my EBMM's..These guitars are designed for serious players, by serious players!!..I look forward to giving you guys what you want...and showing just how these instruments can be pushed..I always shock people on clinics at the tones I get without the use of any pedals...Just by using the volume, tone and pickup selector is like having a multi effects unit or multi channel amp built into your guitars!!..Just by backing off the volume will clean up a crunch tone, make it thinner, so it sits better in a mix..If you have an Axis Supersport with HH configuration, try putting the pickup selector switch in the middle, engaging both humbuckers, and roll the tone fully off...with a mild overdrive its almost like using a half open wah..a killer tone!!!...try experimenting guys..just plug in the amp, and spend some time working the guitar controls...you'll be suprised and inspired!!
As regards to the Reflex,..yes I am eagerly waiting the delivery of my Game Changer...so i'll include that as my Reflex guitar...Hope this helps some of you to try new things!!!...Jamie H
