Posted a howdy over on the general music discussion, didn't see this forum right away, who'd think there would be more if I scrolled down? DUH! Thanks to Lew for setting me straight. :) Anyway, my name is Jake, and I'm a guitaraholic. I've been wanting a EBMM for years, just never pulled the trigger, but last week I found a stellar deal on a surf green Silhouette, so I bought it. It should arrive thursday or Friday, and I can't wait to get my paws on it. I'll be sure to post a lengthy review when I recover from the gig this weekend.

Looking forward to getting to know you folks, and having a great time here!

welcome, jake. hope the guitar is all you hoped for. I think it will be. I've only ever found one ebmm I didn't like, and I think it was used and had been really jacked with. I love these guitars...they just really know how to make em right. tell us a little about your musical interests and such, for fun. :)

Well, you are not the only guitaraholic, i have played my F***er strats for years, and simply thought that was the real thing. My EBMM caused a revolution inside my guitaraholic brain.

I want more balls......!!! :p

Welcome.

Hey Mods, I was just thinking, maybe we should also have a dedicated REVIEW thread.

We got one for pics, why not for reviews?

Might even help sell a few more guitars. But not to me. I swear I'm done once Honey Albert gets here!

Hey Jake! Welcome! Was that Silhouette the one over at Dave's Music? If it is, that was a good deal on an Original Sil.! That guitar is especially cool for having the original (and rare) Schaller trem and pickups...

Either way, glad you're here! Stick around... and...

welcome to the addiction!

Hey folks,

Thanx for the very warm welcomes all around! The Sil should be today after 1:30, I will post as soon as I unbox it. Alas, I do not have the ability to post pics, but since it is the one from Dave's Guitar Shop site, you can still see it there. (they haven't taken the listing down yet). Go to www.davesguitar.com, click on inventory, and then go to misc. electrics and scroll down.

Yeah, I thought it was a good deal too. They did a straight trade with me for an American Series tele. I only had $400 bucks into the tele, so I feel like I made out pretty well, I'll know for sure when it get's here.

So those are Schaller pups? The guys at the shop thought they were Duncans, but they weren't 100% sure. Anybody have a tone review on these babies? Anybody have any idea how old this guitar is?

For the person with the dog named Jake, that's where I got my name. The dog and I were so much alike people used to get us mixed up. he's gone now, but I keep his memory alive by using his name as an internet handle, and quite frequently, a stage persona.

Thanks again,
Jake

That's the one! Just unboxed it, and lordy is it cool! They had it labeled as surf green, but the picture looked a little on the turquoise side, in reality, it's dead-nuts on for a pre-cbs sea foam green. It's also very old for an EB. The finish is sinking and browning out nicely, much like an old f****r. The serial number is stamped into the wood on the back of the headstock, 88246, any idea what year it is? The neck has nice birdseye, but isn't at all over the top, I like it that way. It's also a six bolt neck, never seen one of those before. I will tear it down and do a complete set up on it tonite, it plays great now, I can't wait til I get done with it. there is absolutley zero fretware, and not even any pick scratches on the guard. It is, in a nutshell, near perfect. The nut is cut a tad too low, but I'll fix that too.

I am in love.

The neck is laquered, and feels like a dream. I think it may be a re-fret, the edges of the board are fairly worn, and there are several worn spots on the fret board, but the frets are perfection, perfect crowns, no wear whatsoever. the shape of the neck is VERY unique, I've tried lots of Sils over the years, never felt one like this. The fret board is extremely flat, very much like my custom made tele copy, which is compound radiused 16-22. I'll see if I can figure out a way to measure it.
