Hi all, been a "lurker" looking for info here for quite a while, figured I'd make it official and actually join in... this was also spurred on in no small part by the roasted neck SR5 HH that is on its way to me in a couple days here! I'm a new englander (currently snowbound) and a small club alt-rocker. My main axe has been a G&L L-2500 that I play thru a Glockenklang heart-rock/ampeg 610HLF (yes my gear is all over the place haha), but I have a mid-90's b/b/m stingray 4 that is dear to my heart... had a SUB 5 that I loved the feel of (and super tight low b!) but personally felt could not match the tone of the L-2500... HH to the rescue! Anyone got any good suggestions as to how I can distract myself until it gets here? I'm just about out of fresh google hits for images/info until I get it in my hands and I'm going nuts!

Delayed a bit by the storms but still arrived in time for the weekend gig! I'm still getting to know this bass but oh boy is the tone BIG. Plays like a dream... it's like coming home. I know the black sugar finish is old news at this point but it doesn't really look like a sparkle finish most of the time... very subtle copperish flecks.

Sweet bass! I'd love to get a roasted 5er sometime. I'll make due with what I have, though. :)

Nice intro Jessie, welcome to the club. I think you have already made a few people jealous with your 2nd post. JOSH

Beautiful bass, (I'm drooling all over myself!!) If you could would you please share any observation and nuances you have discovered with the roasted neck, vs the regular one. I went out this weekend, (I live near Peoria Ill) and visited two very reputable stores, neither one had one in with a roasted neck yet.(I would love to play one, so for now any commment thoughts and observations you want to share would be cool!) Also welcome to the MM family!

Biggest thing I would say about the roasted vs. regular maple is probably going to come down to lacquered neck vs. satin... the lacquer suits me perfectly, it's the same feel as on my stingray 4 so I'm used to it but I know it could be a make or break thing for some. This might be mumbo jumbo but I thought I read somewhere that the roasting process destroys any blanks that might have instabilities... thus ensuring you've got "good wood"? Maybe I'm just perpetuating urban legends :D oh and also the ebony fingerboard bears mentioning, it plays much more like a maple fretboard than a rosewood board, to my thinking.

My observation with my roasted Big Al 5 is that it just sounds freakin awesome in every nuance and sustains forever if you want it to.

It can sound a lot more aggressive than the SR 5 bfr rosewood neck
