Of course your Momma thinks you said great...

But seriously, vocals are fine, more than fine actually. I would rather listen to good vocals from a singer/songwriter, than amazing vocals on a piece of music the singer had no part in creating.

Which is why I am not a fan of American Idol...

I really like the bass line. Vocals are cool and mellow, I really like your singing. The song idea is nice too.

But I believe the arrangement could have a little more edge to it.
A little more rock and a little less 80ies pop. Live drums and a little more guitar would do that I believe.
But this is just my opinion and my taste.

(Now please don't shoot me, you asked for it:eek:)

I Truly want your cats honest opinion. Not lookin for the ego stroke.. Well that too, but I can only get better with honest feedback, so feel free to always say what u really think. In fact.. Only say what u really think.

I was thinking along the same lines, but I was thinking that it was a demo and therefore didn't want to be too critical.

Okay...here's my thoughts on it. I don't mean to sound pompous like my opinion really matters but since you asked for honest feedback...so just thought I'd throw this out there.

Overall....Very nice and I liked it. It's got a really nice vocal melody which is obviously very important and your singing sounds good and the melody works really well with the chord changes - Very nice.

The bass hook is cool for sure. It's definitely one of the main features of the song. I'm trying to decide whether it's almost too much of a feature but I can't really tell - being a bass and guitar player I tend to listen to the instruments a lot anyway so my perspective probably isn't the greatest in that sense. Anyway, it sounds fun.

The bass tone is so killer!! Rock bottom...sitting so nice down there and so solid!! Wow! Awesome!

I really like the little guitar fill thing from 1:44 - 1:50 - very haunting. Kind of reminds me of a Ty Tabor thing. The guitar parts in general are really nice - nice tone and cool alternate picking thing.

I didn't really get the part from 2:27 - 2:43. You lost me there. Other than that the biggest thing I would change, if it were me, is the keyboard sound (and the drums too but I figure that's just a feature of it being the demo). The keyboard sound does make it sound a bit dated - like a mid-80s sound and I personally don't really care for a lot of 80s music - but that's just me. I know lots of people LOVE 80s music so they might like that keyboard sound.

Overall, though...lot's of goodness there. Thanks so much for posting that. I really enjoy hearing your playing and your stuff!!

:)

yeah it is still very much in demo form, and no where near final track status, BUT ....all this fantastic feedback is really really beautiful for me to have and will definitely help me decide which songs / bits to keep and which ones to toss out, or at least improve upon. everything that everyones said so far (except whoever went off about flapjacks) is all valuable, valid info, and i just cant thank u enough for takin the time to share your thoughts... so very very cool, and qualifies you all for the drawing to win a free hot dog. good luck!

It's all nice, vocals and all. Love the bass sound and playing though - I know it's all in the fingers but would love to know the settings ish you used on that Big Al - it's got that great Musicman vibe.

Mom's always right, Craig. Sounds great. Agreed about the Tom Petty sound but the chorus made me think of Elvis Costello's "Alison", just more upbeat. Dig it.

Craig Young, I hate you. I've said it before, but here goes: You sing almost as well as you blay bass, and that just ain't fair. my only hope is that you'll suck at doing both at the same time, and will f**k up on letterman;-)

The round upper mids are great on the fills. My Sterling fills would be too grindy there.

Me too...was it an SSS?

Oh I liked the track too...very understated, but catchy.

strummer, if i make it to letterman solo, i will mess up just for you!!

to all who axed... yup trippple sss. passive. middle and bridge pickups engaged. compressed thru tubes, compressed to tape, then last but not least... reluctantly hacked up into particles ( 1's and 0's ).
