Stunnin' Axe... oh Man!

So guys.. what do the split coils sound like on the JP babies... ?? Do they possess any quack at all... (I tried the Silo 20 Ann.. and though it's beautiful & got a totally wonderful clean tone, it just didn't quack... so for us funksters, we have to get duck-like or we're out of a job...)

Now, I have yet to play one JP ... but the latest version pushes the internal G.A.S buttons for sure...

In my particular musical world, you get a lot of bunk coming at you if you show up to a gig with what looks like a heavy rocker's guitar (i.e. Wolfgang, Ibanez with pointed headstock or Charvel like axe, or anything Floyd Rose equipped...)

This new JP model transcends catagory (looks wise..) Just Love it,, very cool indeed...!!:)

I've owned a few JP's, and just never got the 'vibe' from them that I was looking for like I get with an Axis.

However, I would give this version some SERIOUS consideration.

I really love the thinner horn and the more traditional forearm contour! I'd be curious to see what it looks like with the other horn thinner to match too. I'm also diggin adjustable pickups!

Keep up the good work!

p.s. If you need a 'hands-on' opinion I'd allow you to send me a proto to try. I'm very gracious like that....;)

I'm always a little disappointed when people post negative comments about new products/prototypes here. Please remember Big Poppa is sharing things with us that other companies would never ever dream of sharing. Have a little faith in the EBMM team. They have never let us down yet. I can't wait to see them.

I like the finish but I'm not loving the lower horn and what looks like the lack of the forearm contour. And I think I'd prefer it without pickup rings. I hope the current models will still be available.

Wow, its so much different from the original JP model. I love it in every way though, I bet it will play amazingly well and be really comfortable. JP wouldn't have it any other way. I really can't wait until I have enough saved up for one of my own.

The MM guys get to have all the fun. Working on protos with artists- trying out new ideas and playing the hell out of what comes out of the shop!

Damn, I'd love to participate!

My JP6 doesn't really quack. So, I also want a Silo Spec in the stable.

I bet the latest episode it went something like this [tongue firmly in cheek]...

Fanboy fiction follows:
BP:[calling JP] John! Hey! How's it going? Did you get the guitar?
JP: Yeah. Rena called me at the gym to tell me it arrived. I was bench pressing my personal trainer. I came right home when I heard.
BP: So, what do you think?
JP: It's great so far!
BP: Are we getting warmer?
JP: Yeah. Really close.
BP: How close?
JP: Really close. About a hundredth of an inch here and there, and we're good. We're pretty much there overall, though.
BP: We've been down this road before, John. Remember those 42 e-mails Pete got? Can I go to the forums with this? I can't be the boy who cried wolf, okay? Is this pretty much what you want? I'm betting it is, but you're the guy who has to live with the thing. Can I go to the forums with this? You know those Knuckleheads and your kooky fans. I gotta be sure. You know, that roburado guy can't stop posting about this thing.
JP: Yeah. Let's do it. Besides, that roburado guy, man...I met him. He's gotta get a life. At least, let's throw him a bone.
:D

Wow! Very nice! I like the thinner lower horn for easier upper-fret access. But we need the "scoop!"

I don't think Big Poppa really cares if a couple people say they don't like the new body style. I would suspect he expects as much really. Anytime you change a product there is bound to be a certain percentage of people who will prefer things the old way. There was only a couple of "negative" comments, and as long as they aren't disrespectful, I don't think we have to worry Dargin and Sterling keeping these things from us in the future.

Well here are my thoughts. Now this is only a very humble opinion, I know that this guitar is that way it is because JP wants it that way and in the end it is him you have to please, that is what I love about Music Man.

That being said it looks great. I imagine by the looks of the neck joint (from the front anyway) it probably has better upper fret access. The mahagony neck probably warms gives it a warmer fuller tone. The pick up rings I don't mind but that bottom horn does make it look, I don't know weird. One thing I have learned from my experience with EBMM is that everything is done for a reason.

With the new body and that bottom horn it almost looks, NOW PLEASE DON"T KILL ME, like his old Ib***z JP model.

I guess we will have to wait for the final model.

Once again thank you BP for sharing this with us, and I hope no one at EBMM takes my comments the wrong way, I know it is a prevelage to be able to see this models even when they are not done, so thank you for allowing us to see them and to express our opinion also.

Oh by the way is the neck carve or radius going to change any?

Thanks

Hey Kids!
It's Johns guitar!!!!!

You never know who you lose...but you also dont know who you gain that didnt like the previous one. If people still want the old one we keep making it...if they dont we dont..really simple

Our job is to make tools for our signature artists and hopefully we can learn something
that filters down into regular production. If that doesn't happen fine we have made a great player a better guitar.

To summarize...input/critiscm is really not relevant here...after 20 something protos John is over the moon...... maybe it will inspire him to take the instrument farther even when we mortals didnt think it was possible....

He could wake up tommorow and hate it....This time I dont think so...

Lets try to give John, Drewm Dudley, and the old Popster the benefit of the doubt and reserve judgement until you play it . It is a formula one racing machine

By the way most of the time a new car comes out I generally prefer the old body style...but end up owning the new one later after it has grown on me.

I'll take one when it's done, no matter what changes are made! Look how great the original JP model is.. and now they're working their butts off to move the design forward. I'm sure it the end product will look, feel, and play amazing.

I like it.

While I do like the forearm contour (I have really big forearms) and don't really dig the striping or whatever that is on the fingerboard and the lower horn is a little thin, this are really minor. It certainly wouldn't stop me from buying one.

It might sound more major than it is, but it's prett minor to me.

As an aside, I'm kind of surprised JP is going with pickup rings. In every interview or video I've ever seen of him talking about his gear, he's talked about how he doesn't like pickup rings since he anchors his pinky on the lower portion of the pickup.

Any word on whether this will be available as a 7 string? If it's not, none of this post is relevant, please ignore it. :)

super sweet looking!!!

me likey... but that doesn't matter. Its all about what JP thinks. That's how the MM sigs work... they're exactly what the artist wants. so us mortals get JP test and decide for us.... i like that :)
