Mike,
I'm digging the "photo booth" session of the new JP. Even though the color is hard to capture .. it still looks amazing!! Congrats.

I just got home from my first rehearsal with the JP. I was really surprised by several things I wasn't expecting. First, I wasn't initially all that impressed with the D Sonic when I played one in the store. Tonight was the first time I've actually played this JP amplified, and the pickups sounded great. I had expected that I would replace the pickups almost immediately, but these are staying put.

I expected that it would probably take awhile for me to get used to the wider neck and string spacing of the JP compared to my Axis. That also proved to not be an issue. While it felt a bit odd at first, it quickly became very comfortable and as a bonus it is a substantially faster neck.

As a bonus, I had never experimented with the middle position on the toggle switch, and was pleasantly suprised to find that it really has a great single coil sound. I experimented with it first using a clean tone and then with varying amounts of distortion and it really gave me several great blues tones. I really can't see the need to pick up a different guitar for a single coil tone.

This guitar absolutely shined while playing leads. I had really forgotten how much I enjoy the extra range of a 24 fret guitar verses the 22 on my Axis. I used the neck pickup for most of the solo work and it really had a smooth singing tone. For heavy saturated chords the bridge pickup cut through the mix very well. The tone was heavy and articulate at the same time. Natural and artificial harmonics were outstanding using either pickup. Clean tones on any pickup setting sounded great. The piezo saddles sounded every bit as good as our other guitarist's Martin that I compared it to. I didn't have two amps, so I didn't get a chance to experiment with any hybrid acoustic/electric tones. I'm sure they will sound great as well.

I played various model PRSs for more than 10 years of my career and while I loved those guitars, none of them measured up to this JP. There is really not one single thing I would change about it. Also, and this goes without saying, the workmanship that went into this guitar is second to none. The finish is perfect and Music Man does absolutely the best fretwork in the industry. All in all, I'd have to say that this is really the guitar that I've been waiting for, for a long time.
