Nice work, Craig. I like the flow.

Does the road bass player cover your lines or does he use his own?

They have a road guy that had to learn my parts note for note. Funny story.... At a small county fair, He tried to play his own lines late into the set one night when he was tired, and thought no one would notice.. By about the 5th or 6th "whole note" he had a major situation on his hands.. A liqoured up and pissed off group of little old ladies in the first couple rows turned violent and began throwing chairs and colostomy bags at his head, I mean really goin for broke... Finally the fuzz rolled up in riot gear and eventually regained control of the situation just as one interprising little rascal somehow managed to finagle his hover-round up the loading dock ramps and out onto the stage screaming "bonzaaaaiiii" as he burned donuts around the pedal steel guitar players marshall stack.

That bass player almost lost his gig over that little stunt.. Silver lining: I think everyone there learned a valuable lesson that night.

Brilliant as expected... on thing Craig: Does the band actually have the slightest idea how good you make them sound?!

(that's not meant to diss lady a in anyway, they do write great catchy songs, but your lines add the little extra that makes them really stand out)

Great story, Craig. :)

The reason I asked is, as a detail oriented music lover, when I see bands live I like the music to sound like the music I hear on the radio, ipod, or whatever. Granted older tunes will evolve but when they're new I like 'em studio style. When you have a dominant bass line like on your recording it has to be duplicated.

ok ok.. ill be serious, but justthis one time... they have a fantastic road guy, who is also a very dear friend named dennis edwards who plays the hell outta the stuff i chuck in there that would be considered crucial to the structure of the tune, but does it in his style, in a way that no one else could.. theres only one of us, and its important to remember that you have your own sound and signature that could never be totally duplicated. chances are good that the thing you do innately, is gonna be just the ticket for the tunes that cross your path.. forget trying to sound like this or that person... build upon your own thing.. make everyone wanna sound like you... at least thats what i think. i have to think that way, because if i live to be a thousand i'll still not have the ninja skillz that bp has on the bass. i love his basses and guitars, but i officially hate him.

Haha! Made me laugh. :)

I thought the gig story was a little out there but it was a pretty funny scenario.

I play music at church so for the most part I play covers. I'm given a lot of freedom to play what I want because I work hard to make it sound as good as I can. Some songs have signature sounds that I will play something similar but more in my style. Other songs are so far out of my accustomed genre that I have to learn a new style to fit in. I get stretched to new lengths on a regular basis.

Hate BP! I thought you said you were going to be serious. ;)

i was being serious... its a worship / hate relationship... we both worship me, i hate him, it really works for us. dont tell anyone , but i learned to play in church too... i think that explains a lot, i maybe should bring that up in therapy next week, at the very least, it'll play well in front of the parole board, maybe theyll have mercy and shave off a few years for time already served??

I was watching Lady A on Good Day NY this morning. The Guy lead singer was having a hard time hearing himself, so at the end of the song he motioned to the sound guy, then threw his in ear receiver about 20 feet. I don't think he realized they were on the air when he did that. :)

If you're talking about me, it's all good. I have a good sense of humor but have learned to be careful with it because people take me too seriously on the written word. :D

Absolutely!!

There was a time when I wasn't playing much but I got motivated to find places to play, hence the playing at a different church then my home church.

The hardest part about playing a lot is the continual practice when you would rather be vegging on the couch but once you get things rolling it gets easy and the fingers flow freely. I recently had a stretch where I played 9 weeks straight with only 1 week off and it was the best time I've had musically in a long time.

The new album got a drubbing in our city's major English paper but conceded that it would likely sell very well.

I have to say that by song end, I felt like I knew it well already. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing! I guess it can't hurt if it's very listen-able.

its just impossible to know whats gonna be a hit, and whats not.. you write em, track it, and throw it out there for the peeps. thats all you can do.. it aint my band.. if it was, we would still be writing songs and no where near a studio.
