HI,
I'm thrilled to be posting my first query on this site: :D
I own a EBMM Axis SS. I have had problems with string breakage on the high e string at the 12th and 15th fret.
That's right, 12th and 15th fret wire!
The frets are SUPER clean and mirror polished, yet, they still break! (granted, I do some mofo bendin', yet, my other guitars don't behave the same way)
Any suggestions?
Anyone else share this problem?
Thanks

What's wrong with blue steels?

dont get me wrong, i love their sound! ... but they seem to be the only brand of string that I break nowadays. the last 5 or 6 years my string breaking has been minimal, but when i throw on a set of blue steals im guaranteed to break a few of them and really quickly too. thats been my experience and ive heard a few local guys complain about the the same thing.

Actually they're D'Addarios .0095's and I don't slip off the edge.
The odd thing is that the breakage occurs NOT at the saddle or other endpoints but AT the fret! (ie 12th fret wire or 15th wire)
Yikes!???

Any others with this experience?

Are you doing your thumbwheel tight enough?
Or have you worn it by overtightening?
Could be a burr on the nut or saddle.
Could be a sharp fret end.
How high is the saddle.
It could be one of a million things...get it to a tech and report back my man

"Thumbwheel"? If you mean the locking wheel on tuning peg.what would that have to do with breakage at the12th fret?
Ditto for burr on nut/saddle.
Saddle hright is normal.
No sharp frets either.
I guess that narrows it down to 999,994 other things ;)

What I'd really like to know is have any other EBMM Axis SS owners had this problem?
thanks

Hi, Jon
It's me the "neck repalcement from Canada".
How's it goin'?
Ya, the string breakage thing is kinda weird-it doesn't seem to happen on any of my other axes unless I go right to town on bending.
Maybe I've just been eating too much spinach?
The problem was REALLY bad fresh from the factory.

When I first got my Axis I was breaking strings enough to do a similar post as yours...then after about 3 weeks of playing I must have "bedded it in" and since then I must have snapped maybe 2 strings in a year!!

Keep playing until the snapping stops!!!

It has been my experience, that when strings break in odd places (not the bridge or nut etc) It usually boils down to pick attack or playing style.

The thing is, I noticed that the e string in particular would get "pitted" or "notched" at the frets where regular or agressive bending occured. These seem to be the "stress points" for eventual breakage.
Jon, I appreciate your comment about technique/attack, yet this problem didn't occur on my other guitars (GandL, Hamer, Fender,Warmoth, etc)
Weird...

Interesting, sometimes you reply to them and sometime you don't? :p

*knock on wood* I've never had that problem with blue steels.... strange! Though I'm not a "hard" player, I don't hit the strings that hard when I play.

I thought you were saying in your posts, that you thought the problem was the frets, making it a non-issue at this point because the neck is being replaced.

ya Jon, I guess you're right.
Once I get the new neck installed it'll alL be good.
Man, you are one dedicated cat-today's Saturday and you're talkin' shop. You should be out mountain biking or something (or in my case, snowboarding)!
Take Care
