i gotta say d'addarios ......SUCK ....they intonate nice and consistant...but they break if you look at them funny.
i have experienced the problem your describing.....and it was w/ d'addarios......and...you should be using slinky's !!!!!!

Are you saying that you experienced breakage at the fret and NOT the bridge/saddle?
And, the problem stopped simply by changing string brand? Iuse D'Addarios on ALL my electric 6 strings and never had that problem but I'd be willing to change if it makes a difference.

I was thinking of switch to .009's on the Axis anway,so, why not go ALL EB?
I'll give it a try.
Has anyone else out there found differences in switching to EB from D'Addario?
(I was always under the impression that D'Addario's were top drawer!)

Seems tough to get a consensus on what strings are the "best". Lots of different opinions. Personally I'm fond of d'addario 9s or 10s. Find they never break.
For the past while I've been alternating d'addario and super slinkys on various guitars, trying to see if there's actually a noticable difference. Anectodally, I find that the d'addarios sound cripsper;snappier for longer. (Seem to take a longer before they sound dead.) But it's a subtle difference and sometimes I can't tell.
More to the point, the d'addarios are a buck cheaper a set at my local store. If I could buy either brand in bulk that would seal my decision
