Hi All, Just aqquired a SR4 with the Piezo transducers under the bridge, I have been lusting after a US Stingray for years and now i have one ! Its a 2000/2001 model i think from the serial number on the neck plate, It was delivered to me at 11am last Tuesday.... by midday all the cruddy chrome hardware had been stripped and cleaned ,frets polished, neck and board wiped with pure alcohol and the back of the neck dabbed with lemon oil, reassembled / new strings and gigged at 9pm that evening,Now here comes the crunch... the maple board has string / playing marks which i would like to get rid of , I have Googled pages about maple neck / board cleaning and most people have their own opinions about tackling this problem, Even the EBMM site has its own solutions which i suppose should be the definitive answer ?.....Treat with Gunstock oil ? whats that ? I live in Spain where there are no Gun shops next to a Taco bell or KFC,The only guns i see are the Glocks carried by the Police, Is there an equivalent product i can get from a DIY superstore cos we have plenty of those, I have purchased some EBwonderwipes from a fender / and everything else main dealer in Malaga City but cannot see the wipes doing much good after the damage has been done, This is my first Maple board bass i have owned, All the others being rosewood US Fenders from a ´64 Jazz (wish i had not sold that one in 1978 !!) up to a 2008 Fender P Bass... or maybe do you think the marks add "character " to the instrument ?? Sorry about all that on my first post i promise i will be a lot briefer in the future, Best Regards and a Merry Xmas to all EB users US and Asian manufactured....Peter (Spain)

Greetings. I've bought mine a several months ago. Today I went at my local music store to buy some EB wonder wipes but seems it ran out in whole country) Did you say it does not do the job well? I saw some Dunlop cleaner and lemon oil but I never used it.

Welcome!

I like your bass very much, ... piezo is my secret love!

Talkin' bout maple board maintenance, ...check some of my older Threads, ...I sealed mine with high gloss paint job and don't need to worry about cleaning a maple wood any more! Of course, first You have to find first class guitar builder near You who can sand it properly and than finish without frets removal!!!

Good luck anyway!

Hi Pete, wasn't sure what you mean't by "equivalent product"?? Was that for the gunstock oil or the Glock gun??

I would say, Beretta, Sig, HK USP, Smith & Wesson are all comparable.

I say keep the fretboard wear. Adds character and mojo.

It's one of the things I like about "worn" equipment. That's just me though.

Thanks

Thanks TNT for the gun reply :):) and Mtrejo i´ll leave the strings marks on fretboard as "Mojo" and just treat with the wonderwipes as recommended by EB...Just read on "TalkBass" forum that the Piezo /Pizza ? can be adjusted with trim pots under the back cover...Do EB have a definitive guide to these adjustments or shall i leave well alone ? and are they made by Fishman or EB, That Piezo soloed through an Ashdown with 15inch cab is Jazz heaven ...Peter

Wolowitz of BBT would probably play a Bongo...

I would NOT recommend Wesson Oil on the fretboard :-\

BTW, Unlike some other brands, EBMM maple FB are
naked, no finish at all. The dirt is usually metal oxide
moved from string to wood by the player's finger tips,
and thus 'massaged' into the grain of the maple. So,
it doesn't clean off like food/organic/animal gunk will.
It's more like embedded metallic industrial grime. You
can't bleach it nor dissolve it. You pretty much hafta
sand off the surface of the FB, not that I would in any
way suggest that you try to do so ... Just let it be.

I'm sick and tired of people writing nonsense. Everyone knows a few pounds of TNT would do the work equally well or probably better. :D

Oh, and welcome to the forum, Pedro_Basso!

best,
