Question New Music Man Owner (BFR Super Sport)

Hi,

Having only played my first Music,an ~1 month a go, I went to a guitar shop today to buy a Luke, and come home with a BFR Super Sport Axis (oops!). I found the neck of the Luke I played super comfortable when I played it a while ago, however I wasn’t 100% sure. I had demoed a lot of guitars that day and the Luke was the last one I played. So I decided to go back and give a Luke a proper try, loved the neck, but found I loved the neck on the Super Spot even more! Wasn’t planning on spending quite that much on a guitar but no regrets!

I have a couple of questions, for no doubt knowledgeable people on the forums.

The neck feels unfinished (which I love) but any special things in cleaning / looking after it I should do (or things to avoid)?

Also, any idea what the name of the colour of the guitar is?

Also, I’m confused by the lack of skunk stripe and yet the fret board seems too good a match to the neck, how are Music Man necks constructred? Are they one piece and the fretboard cut from it?

Hopefully this is day 1 of a long time with guitar. Better picture to follow (and maybe some sound samples)

The finish is amethyst burst which was available only on the BFR models and which has unfortunately been discontinued. It is stunning, as are all EBMM finishes.

I'll let someone else explain the fretboard/neck joint, but it starts as one piece and is the result of the expert craftsmanship at the EBMM factory.

Thank you for the help and the quick replies - I'll read up on how to keep it as good as it currently is! I've just found the link to the PDF which shows what the pickup switching is actually doing (from what I could hear, it didn't seem like a straight coil tap, but good to know now), so tomorrow will be a bit more experimenting, today was just playing and having a blast.

The guitar is a lot more black / dark purple in person, only under bright light does it take on the strong purple.

The fretboard is indeed a separate piece. The neck is sawn with some very thin saw. Then the trus rod is assembled into it and the piece reapplied. I don't know when the frets are put in.....but I asked about this process here after buying my first Axis Supersport as it looked like it was all 1 piece.

Two days in and definitely no buyers regret. Looking back, its a shame I didn't get any care advice on the neck from the store (not that it would of affected my decision). The neck is the most figured I've ever seen, however I've only played 4 Music Man guitars (2 Lukes, a Silhouette and this one). Looking over the forum, there are many incredible ones. To my eye, it's a lovely mix of flame and birds eye.

It's a very different feel to the Parker Fly (the other guitar in the shot), the necks couldn't be more different. I'm surprised how versatile it's been so far, running into a Laney Lionheart 5W. This particular guitar hunt has been slowly going on most of this year and has involved trying a lot of decent guitars. Oddly I’ve ended up with one model I’d never seen or played before I bought it, it just worked. Serendipity some would say.

Getting a photo that is representative of the dark purple has been hard, maybe this weekend when I can capture it under natural light. I found it as number #887 in the BFR thread, so it took almost 3 years to make it to me (though new and unplayed). I don't know how many purple hard tail, maple fretboard ones there are out there, but it's the perfect match for me (I know a lot of guys won't touch purple guitars, but this is my second).

Ouch my fingers hurt, haven't played this much in a long time (and wow I'm rusty...)

Some more shots of the guitar, though it changes colour in different lighting. As I look down now it's almost black, under bright lights its very purple. I like it.
