New (Old) Guitar Day!!

As some of you may remember the EBMM Axis Super Sport I purchased a little over a month ago was stolen. My tech re-imbursed me and I went out seeking another. This time I went for the regular Axis. I purchased it from a dealer in NorCal who got it from a collector/hoarder. As the story goes this guy was quite wealthy and purchased literally hundreds of guitars and amps and NEVER used them. He even rented a condo next to his condo just to store them all. Weird.

But, guitars are meant to be played and this one is about to get a lot of use.

As confirmed by Ernie Ball, this beauty was made on October 4th 1996 making it quite "old" for an Axis. It's in perfect showroom new condition and still has the plastic on the back :eek:

Quite a find and looks great - did you get it at a good price?

The real question is: any more of these finds lying around from that guy?! :)

VERY good price... Let's just say more than $1,000 and quite a bit less than $1,500. The guitar was only on eBay a couple hours before I contacted the seller and the deal was done.

I have the dealers number and he is going to alert me to any other EBMM, Anderson or Suhr's the guy might have laying around.

Thanks guys!!! I only had a chance to crank it up for 20 or 30 minutes last night but this thing just screams! Was getting fat pinch harmonics all over the neck and although I tend to prefer hard tails I find no real loss of sustain with the FR style bridge that's on it. Now to woodshed and get my chops up to tackle some EVH licks. I may end up lowering the rear pickup a little as the front is a bit lower than the rear and they do seem slightly out of balance.

One of my friends on facebook also noticed the lock nuts are rotated 90 degrees. It feels like new strings so I think the dealer re-strung it right before shipping. Probably had the originals on it.

I think EVH left in 1995 so I'm not sure if 95 was the last year of production or not but I would assume so. Which would make 1996 the first year of Axis production. I don't know how special that makes it though since we all know the Axis is virtually the same as the EVH signature model except for the switch location and I think a small neck width change. But I can tell you that it sure feels special when I'm playing it! Love this guitar!!
